Albus Potter Early Life

Albus was the second child of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley. He was born two years after his older brother James Sirius and two years before his younger sister Lily Luna.

He was named for the two headmasters of Hogwarts who made a huge impact on Harry’s life. Albus Dumbledore, Harry’s mentor who helped him discover Voldemort’s Horcruxes and defeat him. And Severus Snape, the man who apparently hated Harry, but actually risked his life and sacrificed his reputation to protect Harry over a period of almost 20 years.

Albus goes to Hogwarts

Albus was ready to begin at Hogwarts in 2017, in the same year as his cousin Rose Granger-Weasley and as Scorpius Malfoy. He was quite anxious about attending school as his brother had told him many untrue stories about Hogwarts.

Before getting on the train, he expressed concern to his father that he would be placed in Slytherin, and not be placed in Gryffindor like his mother, father, and older brother. Harry told him that there was nothing wrong with being in Slytherin, and that the Sorting Hat takes your choice into account. Nevertheless, when Albus was sorted into Slytherin, Harry was very surprised.

On the train, Albus also befriended Scorpius Malfoy, who was the son of Harry’s old school nemesis Draco Malfoy. Their friendship grew as they were in the same house, and the two boys bonded over bullying. Albus was bullied for being the only Potter in Slytherin, while many suspected that Scorpius was really the son of Lord Voldemort.

Albus did not take to magic right away at Hogwarts and struggled in potions and failed to get off the ground in his first flying lessons. Some of the other students started calling him the Slytherin Squib.

Tensions between Father and Son

Albus’ challenges at school created a lot of tension between him and his father Harry. In his second year, he refused to be seen on the train platform with his father. In his third year, Albus burned the Hogsmeade permission slip that his father had given him, saying that he had no interest in going there. In the same year, he discovered that the mother of his friend Scorpius had died and insisted on attending the funeral at Scorpius’ request, despite his father’s misgivings.

Just before starting his fourth year, Albus confessed to his father that he was struggling at school. An argument ensued, with Albus telling Harry that he sometimes wished Harry was not his father. In his frustration, Harry also told Albus that he sometimes wished Albus was not his son. While Harry immediately regretted these words, the damage was done.

Harry tried to give Albus the blanket that he had been wrapped in as a child as a peace offering. It was the only thing that Harry had from the house of his parents. Albus was unimpressed. Harry then suggested that Albus stop spending time with Scorpius, but Albus refused.

Albus and Amos Diggory

Also in the summer prior to his fourth year at Hogwarts, Albus overheard a conversation between Harry and Amos Diggory. Amos had heard that a time-turner had been discovered. It was assumed that they had all been destroyed in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in 1996.

Amos wanted Harry to use the time-turner to go back in time and save the life of his son Cedric Diggory. Harry refused the request, knowing the risks associated with time travel. Amos falsely blamed Harry for the death of his son.

While eavesdropping on his father, Albus met the witch Delphi, who claimed to be Amos’ niece. She told Albus that he could visit her and Amos at St Mungo’s hospital at any time.

When Albus boarded the train, his cousin Rose, who had been distant with him in previous years, tried to befriend him again. She was soon forced to admit that her parents had asked her to do so, which only darkened Albus’ already dark mood. He instead sought out his friend Scorpius to tell him everything that had happened over the summer.

The two hatched a plan to prove themselves by finding the time-turner and using it themselves to save Cedric Diggory. The two enchanted the trolley witch and jumped off the moving train.

Albus Meddles with Time

Albus and Scorpius tracked down Delphi at St Mungo’s Hospital, where Amos Diggory was currently living. Using Polyjuice Potion they disguised themselves as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger and entered the Ministry of Magic to get the time turner.

The two boys then used the time turner to return to the Triwizard Tournament 20 years earlier to try and prevent Cedric’s death.

In their first attempt, they sabotaged Cedric on the first task and returned. The result was that Cedric still died in the same way, but Ron and Hermione never got together, and Rose was never born. Also, Albus was not in Slytherin and he and Scorpius never became friends.

They decided to try again and sabotaged Cedric on the second task. But this time Cedric Diggory survived, but went on to become a Death Eater and killed Neville Longbottom. This meant that Neville was not there to play a critical role in the Battle of Hogwarts and Lord Voldemort killed Harry. So, back in the present day, Albus no longer existed.

In this reality, Draco Malfoy was also the Head of Magical Law Enforcement, Dolores Umbridge was headmistress of Hogwarts, and Scorpius was venerated as the “Scorpion King”. Meanwhile, Severus Snape, Ron, and Hermione were working as resistance fighters.

With their assistance, Scorpius was able to go back in time again and use a Shield Charm to prevent himself from trying to change time. Thus, he was able to restore the original timeline.

Albus and Delphini

Following their return, Albus and Scorpius were admonished by their parents, but they had also learned their lesson. While they told Harry and Draco that they had lost the time-turner, Scorpius knew where it was. They planned to destroy it with the help of Delphi.

When they met Delphi, Scorpius noticed that she had an Augurey tattoo. In one of the alternative timelines, Scorpius learned that this was the mark of the Rowle family, who were well-known Death Eaters.

This revelation forced Delphi to reveal that her true plan was to revive Lord Voldemort. It was also revealed that her real name was really Delphini, and that she was the child of Lord Voldemort with Bellatrix Lestrange.

She then forced the two boys to travel back in time to the Triwizard Tournament with her again. Knowing that they only had 5 minutes in the past, the two boys stalled with the help of Cedric Diggory in the maze, (he assumed that helping them was part of the task). They were able to tell Cedric that his father loved him before they were intercepted by Delphi.

She then used the time-turner to take the three of them back to 30 October 1981, the day before the death of Harry Potter’s parents. Delphi then destroyed the time-turner, stranding them there.

Albus and Scorpius knew that one of the few things to survive Lord Voldemort’s original attack on Harry was his blanket, so they used the blanket to send a message forward in time. Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Draco were able to decipher the message and use a more advanced time-turner to travel back in time to join the boys.

Harry and the others were able to stop Delphi. Before returning to their own time, Harry decided to stay behind and watch the death of his parents to achieve closure. Albus stayed with him and held his hand throughout the ordeal. The two then returned to the present and saw Delphini sent to Azkaban.

Albus Potter Personality Type & Traits

Albus is described as a quiet and thoughtful boy, very unlike his brazen older brother who was more reminiscent of his grandfather James Potter. While Albus was very close with his father, he seemed very concerned about how different he was from Harry. This “fish out of water” mentality is probably what saw him placed in Slytherin. He subconsciously wanted to be different from his father.

Albus was clearly a kind and open-minded boy, happy to befriend Scorpius despite his last name being Malfoy. He was a loyal friend who refused to abandon Scorpius despite the objections of his father. Albus also clearly had a desire to prove himself and not just be the famous son of Harry Potter. This is why he wanted to go back in time in the first place.

Albus Potter Zodiac Sign & Birthday

Albus must have been born in 2005/6, but we do not know his birthdate. It may be that his zodiac sign is Leo, the same as his father. While Leos are generally considered confident, they are also very sensitive and can turn in on themselves if they do not get the attention that they need.

It would be just like a Leo to hatch an elaborate plan to get attention. But Leos also have big hearts and make excellent friends, just like Albus.
