Ichigo Kurosaki, the main protagonist of the series, possesses the ability to see spirits.
One day he came across a little girl being chased down by a big black silhouette-like creature called a “Hollow.” During that freak incident, he met Rukia Kuchiki, a Shinigami.
One night, Ichigo’s family was being attacked by a Hollow, and so to save them, he absorbed Rukia’s powers and became a Shinigami.
In the later episodes, Ichigo will face great obstacles as Rukia’s substitute and must learn the ways of soul cleansing.
