Professor Burbage was presumably removed by Lord Voldmort and his followers because they disagreed with her opinion that Muggles and Wizards are not that different and that intermarriage between the two is a positive outcome for the wizarding world.

In the summer of 1997, after she was removed from Hogwarts, she was kidnapped by Death Eaters and taken to Lord Voldemort at Malfoy Manner.

At the start of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we meet here there held prisoner suspended above a table surrounded by Death Eaters. Lord Voldemort taunts her, stating:

“Not cotent with corrupting and polluting the minds of Wizarding children, last week Professor Burbage wrote an impassioned defence of Mudbloods in the Daily Prophet. Wizards, she says, must accept these thieves of their knowledge and magic. The dwindling of the pure-bloods is, says Professor Burbage, a most desirable circumstance… She would have us all mate with Muggles… or no bout werewolves…”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

While imprisoned, Charity sees that Snape is present and calls out to him for help. She reminds them that they are friends. This causes much amusement among the Death Eaters, and Snape maintains his cover and does nothing.

Eventually Lord Voldemort kills her with the Avada Kedava curse and feeds her to his snake Nagini.

The Daily Prophet reported that Charity Burbage had resigned and gone into hiding. But the Order of the Phoenix never believed this, as they were unsuccessful in their attempts to locate her.

Under the leadership of Severus Snape, Charity Burbage was replaced as Muggle Studies teacher by Alecto Carrow. The subject became compulsory, and he taught that muggles were little better than animals, and about their cruelty in the persecution of wizards.

Charity Burbage Personality Type & Traits

Charity Burbage must have been an intelligent witch to gain a coveted teaching role at Hogwarts school. Her interest in Muggles suggests a fascination with the world beyond. She was also willing to advocate for Muggle-born wizards at a time when it was dangerous and unpopular. This suggests that she was both brave and big hearted.

Charity Burbage Zodiac Sign & Birthday

We do not know when Charity Burbage was born, or her Zodiac signs. Nevertheless, fans suggest that she could be a Pisces. People born under Pisces tend to be fascinated by other people, and also very accepting of people who are different from them. We see this in Charity in her affinity for Muggles. Pisces also tend to be overly trusting. We see this in Charity’s futile attempt to ask Snape for help.

What did Charity Burbage teach?

Charity Burbage taught Muggle Studies at Hogwarts school. These classes were no doubt designed for wizards who had minimal contact with muggles to help them understand their world better. However, we know that Hermione Granger, a muggle-born witch, was one of the few students who took the class. She was fascinated to understand how wizards interpret the world of muggles.

Charity presumably took a sympathetic approach to muggles and focussed on the similarities between muggles and wizards. This would be consistent with her writings in the Daily Prophet.

Why did Lord Voldemort kill Charity Burbage?

Lord Voldemort believed in the superiority of pure blood wizards and that wizards had the right to dominate and rule over muggles. Not only did Charity Burbage disagree with this opinion, but she actively spoke out against it at a time when pure blood ideas were infiltrating the Ministry of Magic. Lord Voldemort might have seen her as a threat, or he may simply have killed her in contempt.

He killed her with the killing curse – Avada Kedava – and then fed her to his snake Nagini. Her body was never located. Her true fate may never have been shared. While Severus Snape witnessed the murder, he was not on speaking terms with the Order of the Phoenix at the time. They assumed that he showed his true allegiance to Lord Voldemort when killing Professor Dumbledore. They did not realize that this too was a sacrifice that he made to help Dumbledore and Harry.

Why did Snape not save Charity Burbage?

In retrospect, we know that Snape was an ally of Dumbledore and Harry Potter at the time that he witnessed the death of Charity Burbage. Nevertheless, he could not help her as it would have blown his cover. He had already sacrificed so much, he was committed to seeing the plan through to the end. This meant leatting Charity Burbage die.

Were Charity Burbage and Snape Friends?

In her final moment, Charity Burbage begs Snape for help and points out that they are friends. We do not know how close they were, but presumably they spent time together at Hogwarts as fellow teachers. She obviously did not believe that he held animosity towards her, despite the obvious animosity between Snape and many of the other teachers. But she may have been clutching at straws seeing her imminent death.

When does Charity Burbage first appear?

Harry Potter readers only encounter Charity Burbage at the opening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We do not encounter her character, since, as far as we know, the only student who took her Muggle Studies class was Hermione Granger. Therefore, none of the action seems to happen in her classes.
