Charlie Weasley Early Life
Charlie Weasley is the second oldest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley. He is the younger brother of Bill, and the older brother of Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. They all grew up in the Burrow, a house on the outskirts of Ottery St Catchpole in Devon.
He was a child at the height of the First Wizarding War. This may explain why his parents were not actively involved in the war. Nevertheless, he lost both his uncles Fabian and Gideon Prewett, who were members of the Order of the Phoenix.
While the Weasleys never had much money, their family was full of love. Charlie learned the basics of reading, writing, and maths from his mother.
As a young child, he already showed an interest in dragons, sticking paper wings on the family rat Scabbers with Spellotape or putting a dragon mask on the family owl Errol.
Charlie Weasley at Hogwarts
Charlie started attending Hogwarts in 1984 and was sorted into Gryffindor. He immediately showed a talent for flying. He was made Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team in his second year.
Charlie continued his interest in dragons, taking Care of Magical Creatures. He would often make expeditions into the Forbidden Forest to encounter the creatures there. His older brother Bill would accompany him to keep him safe.
Charlie befriended the centaur Torvi, but told no one about it out of respect.
Nevertheless, in his fourth year, he searched for the Forest Vault with the Jacob siblings, Rubeus Hagrid, Torvus, and another student. In the following year, the same group sold items and worked to get money to buy a dragon egg from Alistair Fidgen, but it turned out to be an Acromantula egg.
In his fifth year, Charlie was appointed Prefect for Gryffindor. The following year he was made Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. In the same year, Charlie became one of the founding members of the Circle of Khanna, a group devoted to avenging the death of Rowan Khanna.
In his seventh year, Charlie had to take his Apparition test twice since he failed his first test appearing five miles south of the target location on top of a Muggle woman.
Charlie Weasley Studying Dragons
After graduating from Hogwarts, Charlie went to Romania to pursue his passion and study dragons. He also acquired a new wand at around the same time, since his old wand was passed down to his younger brother Ron.
In early 1992, Charlie received a letter from his younger brother Ron asking him to take a young dragon that Hagrid had hatched at Hogwarts.
Charlie agreed without asking too many questions, reflecting the kind of trouble that he got into at Hogwarts as well. Charlie had also always got on well with Hagrid due to their shared love of dragons.
In 1993, Charlie accompanied his family on a trip to Egypt after they won several hundred galleons from the Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw.
In 1994, Charlie returned to the Burrow again to attend the Quidditch World Cup with his family. This was also when he met Harry for the first time. He assisted his father and other Ministry officials in the aftermath of the Death Eater display.
Charlie was also at Hogwarts in 1994/5 to control the dragons that were brought there to be the first challenge for the Triwizard Tournament. He kept the dragons under control using a sleeping draught and remained on hand during the task in case the dragons got out of control.
He was swift to congratulate Harry on his handling of the Hungarian Horntail. While he attempted to get time off to stay for the third task, he was unable to.
Charlie Weasley and the Second Wizarding War
In 1995, when Harry Potter returned from the cemetery in Little Hangleton with news of Lord Voldemort’s return, the Ministry of Magic denied the news. But Albus Dumbledore believed Harry and reformed the Order of the Phoenix to combat the Dark Lord.
Charlie joined the Order with the rest of his family. He remained in Romania to recruit foreign wizards to the cause.
Charlie did return to the Burrow in 1997 for Harry Potter’s birthday and the wedding of his brother Bill to Fleur Delacour. He used the opportunity to tell Hagrid that his dragon was doing well in Romania.
Charlie was also among the Order of the Phoenix members that rushed to Hogwarts in May 1998 when Neville Longbottom alerted them that Harry Potter had arrived and that Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters were probably on the way.
He was one of the last to arrive, probably because he was out of the country. He only arrived after the brief armistice and the death of his brother Fred.
Charlie arrived with Horace Slughorn who had rounded up hundreds of reinforcements from among the residents of Hogsmeade and the friends and families of students who had chosen to stay and fight. They changed the tide of the battle in the final stages, leaving just Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange to be defeated in the Great Hall.
Charlie Weasley Later Life
Following the war, Charlie continued traveling and studying dragons. He never married or had children but had plenty of nieces and nephews to dote on.
Charlie Weasley Personality Type & Traits
Brother Percy describes Charlie as an outdoors and adventurous type. He loved sports and could have played Quidditch professionally if he had chosen. Instead, he pursued his passion for studying dragons.
