Corban Yaxley Biography

Corban Yaxley was a dark wizard who joined the Death Eaters during the First Wizarding War. He was able to avoid imprisonment after the downfall of Lord Voldemort in 1981 and did nothing to try and find his fallen master.

Nevertheless, when Lord Voldemort summoned his Death Eaters to witness his rebirth in June 1995, Yaxley arrived at the graveyard in Little Hangleton immediately. He seems to have quickly been welcomed back into the fold.

In the summer of 1996, he was set to the house of Horace Slughorn to try and recruit him for the Dark Lord, but Slughorn successfully evaded him and went on the run.

In June 1997, Yaxley was among the Death Eaters that infiltrated Hogwarts with the assistance of Draco Malfoy. He was on the Astronomy Tower when Draco had Albus Dumbledore cornered and encouraged the boy to hurry up and complete his mission by killing Dumbledore.

He was concerned with following Lord Voldemort’s orders to the letter and attacked Greyback when he moved towards Dumbledore, knowing that the Dark Lord had assigned this task to Draco.

When Draco could not bring himself to kill the headmaster, Severus Snape completed the task. Yaxley did not complain or argue.

As he tried to escape with the others, Yaxley was hit with a Full Body Bind Curse by Harry Potter. This meant that he was still in the tower when Ministry officials arrived, and he was probably sent to Azkaban. His time there would have been brief as he would have broken out with Lucius Malfoy.

Corban Yaxley in the Ministry

Yaxley attended the Death Eater meeting at Malfoy Manor in July 1997. During the meeting, he reported that he had placed Pius Thicknesse, the Head of Magical Law Enforcement, under the Imperius Curse. This was essential to Voldemort’s plan to take over the Ministry.

When the Death Eaters took the Ministry, they made Thicknesse their puppet Minister for Magic, and Yaxley took over his role as Head of Magical Law Enforcement.

In this role, he was active in the Muggle-born Registration Commission to identify and imprison Muggle-born witches and wizards. He used the authority that this gave him to intimidate other people at the Ministry. For example, he told Reginald Cattermole that he could make life very difficult for his wife if Reg did not prioritize his requests.

You realise that I am on my way downstairs to interrogate your wife, Cattermole? In fact, I’m quite surprised you’re not down there holding her hand while she waits. Already given her up as a bad job, have you? Probably wise. Be sure and marry a pure-blood next time… But if my wife were accused of being a Mudblood — not that any woman I married would ever be mistaken for such filth — and the Head of Department of Magical Law Enforcement needed a job doing, I would make it my priority to do this job, Cattermole. Do you understand me?

Corban Yaxley, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

He also branded Harry Potter as Undesirable Number One, claiming that he wanted to question him in relation to the death of Albus Dumbledore. He employed Snatchers to capture Muggle-borns and turn them over to the Ministry.

Yaxley and the Battle of Hogwarts

Yaxley later went to Hogwarts with Lord Voldemort and his other followers for the final battle of the war. He was on guard in the Forbidden Forest when Harry Potter decided to turn himself over to Lord Voldemort, but he did not see the boy pass into the campsite as he was under his invisibility cloak.

During the final stages of the battle, Yaxley was overpowered by Lee Jordan and George Weasley. He was probably sent to Azkaban in the aftermath of the war.

Corban Yaxley Personality Type & Traits

Corban Yaxley comes across as someone who puts himself first. He joined the Death Eaters when he thought it was to his advantage, but also turned his back on them when they fell. He liked the power that came with high positions and used his status to intimidate others, as we see him do with Reginald Cattermole.
