Dennis Creevey was a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1994 and was a member of Gryffindor. He is muggle-born, and the younger brother of Colin Creevey. It is quite unusual to have two wizards born into the same muggle family.

Dennis’ Arrival at Hogwarts

Dennis’ arrival at Hogwarts was quite eventful. The tiny boy entered the great hall wrapped in Hagrid’s giant cloak. It transpired that he fell into the great lake, and was very excited by the experience. He later explained that something pushed him out of the lake and back into the boat. He was very excited by the suggestion that it was the giant squid.

During his first year, Hogwarts hosted the Triwizard Tournament. This would have given Dennis a lot to wonder at. Both he and his brother Colin were very excited by everything in the wizarding world, coming from the muggle world as sons of a milkman.

When Harry was chosen as a second Triwizard Champion for Hogwarts, Dennis and Colin supported him. They got their hands on some “Support Cedric Diggory/Potter Stinks” badges and tried to bewitch them to say “Support Harry Potter”. But they only succeeded in making the badges say “Potter Really Stinks”.

Dennis and the DA

In his second year, Dennis was one of the youngest students to join the DA. This was the group set up by Hermione Granger in response to Professor Umbridge’s refusal to teach active defense against the dark arts. She organized a group of students to learn from Harry so that they could be prepared for Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

Dennis went to the meetings with his brother Colin, and both boys clearly believed Harry that Lord Voldemort was back, despite Ministry denials.

Dennis attended the first meeting of the DA in Hogsmeade, and he had to sneak out of the castle to do this, for, as a second year, he was not yet allowed to go into the village. We are not told how he managed this. He was later joined in meetings by his roommate Nigel Wolpert.

Both Colin and Dennis were generally considered erratic in the DA meetings, and would often miss and send books flying off the shelf. We are not specifically told which spells Dennis learned, but like his brother, he may have mastered the Impediment Jinx and the Full Body-Bind Curse.

Dennis was not among the students who came to help when Death Eaters invaded the school the following year. Presumably, he no longer kept his DA coin on him now that meetings were no longer held.

Dennis and the Second Wizarding War

Dennis was not immediately able to return to Hogwarts in his third year. The Ministry of Magic was now under the control of Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters and muggle-born students were not accepted.

Dennis and Colin must have spent most of their normal school year in hiding from the Muggle-Born Registration Committee headed by Dolores Umbridge. She refused to accept that there were any muggle-born wizards and accused them of stealing their wands from real wizards.

When the call came to return to Hogwarts and fight, Colin returned, but Dennis is not specifically mentioned as coming back. Perhaps Colin insisted that his younger brother, who would only have been 14 years old at the time, stay behind. Sadly, Colin died during the battle.

Dennis probably returned to Hogwarts after the defeat of Lord Voldemort and continued his magical education. The experience must have been bittersweet following the death of his brother, but he would also have known that his brother loved magic and would have wanted him to continue.

According to popular fan fiction, Dennis married Rose Zeller later in life, a girl who started a year later than him and was in Hufflepuff house. Together they had a son Cameron Creevey.

Dennis Creevey Personality Type & Traits

Dennis Creevey was a happy and curious person who had a natural wonder and excitement for everything in life. His delight at falling into the great lake upon his arrival at Hogwarts is a sign of this. Ron once described Dennis as “even worse” than his brother Colin when it came to his enthusiasm for Harry Potter and the DA.

Dennis Creevey Zodiac Sign & Birthday

Dennis must have been born in 1982/83 to have started at Hogwarts in the same year as the Triwizard Tournament. His small size when compared with the other students suggest that he was born later in the school year. If he was born in July, he could be a Cancer zodiac sign. People born under this sign tend to be highly emotional, easily excitable, and close to their family.

What Happened to Dennis Creevey?

We don’t really know what happened to Dennis Creevey. He would have been unable to return to Hogwarts in his third year as muggle-born students were not allowed. He presumably went into hiding with his family. It also seems that he did not return to Hogwarts for the final battle.

Assuming he survived the Second Wizarding War, he probably returned to Hogwarts to continue his education.
