Grawp was a giant, the son of Fridwulfa, who was also the mother of the part-giant Rubeus Hagrid.

When Hagrid met Grawp in 1995, he was at risk in the giant colony due to his relatively small size for a giant, so Hagrid brought him back to Hogwarts.

Grawp Biography

Around 1931 the giant mother of Hagrid, Fridwulfa, abandoned her human husband and half-giant son Hagrid and returned to the giant colony.

When she did, she became pregnant again and gave birth to another son, Grawp.

While Grawp was a full-blooded giant, he was only 16 feet tall, which was quite small for a giant.

Consequently, his mother also abandoned him, leaving him alone with the colony, which bullied him due to his size.

In June 1995, Albus Dumbledore sent Hagrid, along with another half-giant, Olympe Maxime, to the giant colonies to try and recruit them to the war against Lord Voldemort.

On this journey, Hagrid discovered and met his brother Grawp.

When Hagrid was forced to leave due to Death Eater presence in the giant camp turning the colony against him and Maxime, he decided to take Grawp with him back to Hogwarts.

Grawp did not want to go, but Hagrid forced him as he was worried about the bullying and what the giant joining Lord Voldemort would mean for Grawp.

Grawp at Hogwarts

When they arrived at Hogwarts, Hagrid kept Grawp hidden in the Forbidden Forest, chained up while he tried to teach him manners.

This made the other inhabitants of the Forbidden Forest nervous, and they warned Hagrid that his plan was futile. But Hagrid did not listen, despite Grawp often hurting him inadvertently.

When, in 1996, Hagrid realized that he was likely to be fired by Dolores Umbridge under her new Ministry-backed regime and forced to leave Hogwarts, he introduced Harry Potter and Hermione Granger to Grawp so that they could look after him if Hagrid was forced to leave.

His prediction turned out to be correct, but the pair of students also could not visit Grawp due to new restrictions at the school.

Grawp soon missed Hagrid and broke his chains to find him. This turned out to be fortuitous for Harry and Hermione, as he scared off a group of Centaurs who threatened them in the forest later that year.

When Dumbledore regained control of the school, he organized with Hagrid for Grawp to live in the mountains near Hogsmeade, close to Hagrid but not too close to the school.

The following year, Grawp would accompany Hagrid to Dumbledore’s funeral. By this time, he had become much more docile and lost his uncontrollably violent edge.

Harry glanced at the back row to which Hagrid was heading and realised what was guiding him, for there, dressed in a jacket and trousers each the size of a small mar-quee, was the giant Grawp, his great ugly boulder-like head bowed, docile, almost human. Hagrid sat down next to his half-brother and Grawp patted Hagrid hard on the head, so that his chair legs sank into the ground.

Grawp Later Life

After the death of Dumbledore, Grawp started assisting Hagrid in his work at Hogwarts, despite the school coming under Death Eater control.

But both were forced to flee when in March 1998, they threw a Support Harry Potter Party. They went back to the cave near Hogsmeade.

Hagrid, Grawp, and Fang heard Lord Voldemort’s threatening announcement to the school when the Battle of Hogwarts broke out in May 1998.

They immediately made their way to the school to join the fight.

Grawp carried Hagrid and Fang into the school, smashing through the boundaries that prevented access.

It was only when Grawp fought with the giants that had joined Voldemort that it became apparent that he was actually quite small.

After the battle, students threw food into his laughing mouth in celebration. After the battle, Grawp continued to live at Hogwarts with Hagrid.

Grawp Personality Type & Traits

All true giants are aggressive and violent, but Grawp had a softer side that allowed him to bond with his half-giant brother and even form other friendships in the human world.

He was clearly intelligent, as he learned many of the niceties of human life that are difficult for giants.

Grawp Zodiac Sign & Birthday

Aside from the fact that Grawp must have been born sometime after Hagrid’s mother abandoned him, we know very little about his birth.

His personality suggests that his zodiac sign could be Pisces.

He was extremely sensitive for a giant and knew how to support Hagrid in difficult times.
