Hermione Jean Granger is a muggle born wizard who discovered her wizarding ability in 1991 and went on to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a member of Gryffindor House. She quickly set herself apart as one of the most intelligent, dedicated, and hard-working witches of her age.

While Hermione’s “know-it-all” nature made it difficult for her to make friends at Hogwarts at first, she managed to win Harry and Ron over in her first year when she took the blame for them for hunting down and defeating a troll themselves. From that time, the three became inseparable.

Hermione quickly set herself apart at Hogwarts for her intelligence and dedication to study. Without her help, Harry would never have been able to figure out what the Philosopher’s stone was and where it was hidden.

During their second year, Hermione was also instrumental in discovering the truth behind the Chamber of Secrets. She was also one of the victims of the Basilisk. She was petrified rather than killed because she had already figured out the secret of the chamber, and so was using a mirror to divert her vision.

In her third year, Hermione was given a time turner to allow her to study more subjects than time would allow. She would later use the time turner with Harry to save Buckbeak and Sirius Black from the Ministry of Magic.

When year four comes around, Hermione helps Harry prepare for the Triwizard cup and strikes up a brief romance with Durmstrang Triwizard Champion and Bulgarian International Seeker Viktor Krum.

In her fifth year Hermione was made a Prefect of Gyrffindor House and also began to actively support the cause of House Elves, even though they didn’t really want her help. She was instrumental in creating the D.A. for students to study defence against the dark arts while Professor Dolores Umbridge is running the school.

During her sixth year Hermione is principally concerned with her studies and her feelings for Ron, which are complicated when he starts to date Lavender Brown. But she is there for Harry as he struggles with occlumency and learns about the Horcruxes.

After Hogwarts

Along with Harry and Ron, Hermione does not return to Hogwarts for her seventh year, but rather hunts down Horcruxes to destroy Lord Voldemort. While it is Harry’s mission, Hermione is the driving force when it comes to researching the potential locations of the Horcruxes and tracking them down.

It is Hermione’s preparations, such as packing essential items including a tent in her magical purse that is larger on the inside, she makes the mission a success.

While Ron abandons the mission briefly, she stays steadfast throughout, even when she is tortured with the Cruciatus Curse at Malfoy Manor.

While she is instrumental in tracking down most of the Horcruxes, she herself destroyed the Hufflepuff Cup with a Basilisk fang retrieved from the Chamber of Secrets during the Battle of Hogwarts.

It is during the drama of the hunt that she and Ron are finally able to admit their feelings for one another.

At the end of the Wizarding War, unlike Harry and Ron, Hermione returned to Hogwarts to finish her studies. After school she worked at the Ministry for Magic, eventually being appointed Minister for Magic in 2019. She married Ron and had two children with him.

Hermione Granger Personality Type & Traits

Hermione’s principal personality traits are intelligence and a tenacity when it comes to learning. For this reason, many suggest that she would belong better in Ravenclaw House. But time and time again she shows her bravery and willingness to make sacrifices to do the right thing.

Hermione is the driving force behind the creation of the DA (Dumbledore’s Army), which allowed students to study defense against the dark arts when it was banned by Dolores Umbridge. Her concern for the welfare of house elves and efforts to help them also reflect her caring character.

Before setting off with Harry and Ron to find the Horcruxes, Hermione enchants her parents to forget about her and move to Australia in order to protect them from becoming collateral damage during the war. She is capable of making great sacrifices for the greater good.

Hermione Granger Zodiac Sign & Birthday?

Virgo Zodiac Sign Symbol with Dates

The books make it clear that Hermione has her birthday before the start of the school year, and J.K. Rowling later confirmed that it is September 19, 1979. This makes her one of the oldest students in her year, while the actress that plays her was one of the youngest on set. It also makes Hermione a Virgo.

Hermione is a classic Virgo in many respects. She is intelligent, diligent, and self-motivated, but also highly self-critical. She obsesses over all the faults in her exams, despite receiving almost perfect marks.

Hermione is highly perceptive, which allows her to pick up on clues that the others miss. She is also emotionally perceptive and can give both Harry and Ginny very good love advice. But she prefers to keep her own emotions hidden as a form of self-protection.

Learn about Hermione’s birth chart and zodiac sign.

Is Hermione Granger a Pure Blood?

Hermione is the first wizard in her family, as her parents are non-magical, also known as muggles. This makes her blood status “muggle born”. Muggle-born wizards are sometimes derogatorily referred to as “mud bloods”.

Salazar Slytherin, one of the founders of Hogwarts, wanted only to teach pure blooded wizards at Hogwarts. He even wanted to exclude half-bloods, which are wizards with identifiable muggle ancestors.

Harry is a half-blood wizard as his mother Lily was muggle born. Fortunately, the other founders of the school opposed him, so Hermione was able to study at Hogwarts.

Hermione Granger Wand

Hermione’s wand is a ten-and-three-quarter-inch vine wood wand with dragon heartstring core purchased from Ollivander’s prior to her first year at Hogwarts.

Hermione had to share her wand with Harry for a brief period while they were hunting for Horcruxes as she accidentally broke Harry’s wand at Godric’s Hollow while saving the two of them from Nagini. Harry later took another wand off Draco Malfoy, and then repaired his own wand using the Elder Wand.

We also learn in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that some of the other magical beings in the world, such as Goblins, refer to wizards as wand carriers and resent them for refusing to share wand lore with them.

Hermione Granger Patronus

Hermione’s Patronus takes the form an Otter, a hardworking, studious, and loyal animal. She learnt to cast her Patronus during her fifth year at Hogwarts during DA meetings.

A Patronus is a non-corporeal shield that some wizards can generate.

Who did Hermione Granger Marry?

Hermione had feelings for Ron for some time before the two were able to admit their affection for one another. They went on to marry and have two children together. Prior to this Hermione had a brief romance with Viktor Krum, the Durmstrang Triwizard Champion and Bulgarian International Quidditch player.

Viktor was attracted to Hermione’s intelligence and spent quite a lot of time watching her in the library before plucking up the courage to invite her to the Yule ball.

When they attended together, Ron became very jealous. The two fostered a friendship even after Viktor left Hogwarts, remaining pen pals. Viktor even invited Hermione to visit him one summer, though she did not go.

Hermione Granger Descendants & Family Tree

Hermione married Ron Weasley and together they had two children, Rose and Hugo. They hyphenated their last names to become Granger-Weasley. As a muggle-born, Hermione does not have any significant wizarding ancestors, and we are never told the first names of her parents, but they are dentists.

Did Harry Potter have a crush on Hermione Granger?

There is no indication in the books that Harry ever had a crush on Hermione. They love and respect each other as friends, but there is never any indication of something more.

Perhaps there was never any space for romance between Harry and Hermione, as by the time Harry was starting to notice her as a woman, the connection between her and Ron was already apparent. Harry, being a good friend, would never betray his friend’s feelings in that way.

However, J.K. Rowling has admitted that Harry and Hermione would have made a better pair and questioned her decision to match Hermione with Ron. But love rarely makes sense.
