Many players run away when they hear the word Brewing because of how challenging the process can be. Rest assured, this is one of the greatest mistakes you can make as a survival player! Potions provide some of the most amazing perks you can obtain in Minecraft.
For example, a Potion of Healing offers instant health – but it can be challenging to create. Don’t worry; today, we’ll guide you through the brewing process of a Potion of Healing in Minecraft 1.20!
How to Make a Potion of Healing in Minecraft?
Combining an Awkward Potion with a Glistering Melon Slice on a Brewing Stand creates a Potion of Healing in Minecraft. This Potion can also be converted into an ‘Enhanced’ variant to increase its potency. Enhancing the Potion requires the use of Glowstone Dust.
Thus, the base ingredients to create an ordinary Potion of Healing include an Awkward Potion and a Glistering Melon Slice. Like other Potions, you can convert a Potion of Healing to both the ‘Splash’ and ‘Lingering’ variants, changing how the Potion is used.
The ordinary Potion can also be converted into an enhanced variation using Glowstone Dust.
The table below summarizes important information about brewing a Potion of Healing in Minecraft 1.20:
|Potion of Healing
|Restores HP by 4 (2 Hearts)
|1x Glistering Melon Slice, 1x Awkward Potion
|Splash, Lingering, & Enhanced
This guide will assume that you’ve already gathered the necessary ingredients and are ready to start the brewing process. If you need help collecting the materials required to make the potion, refer to the guide’s end!
The Brewing Process
After obtaining the materials mentioned above, follow these steps to brew your Potion of Healing!
- Interact with the Brewing Stand to open up its menu.
- Place some Blaze Powder in the left-most slot to charge up the stand.
- Put in a Glistering Melon Slice in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Insert an Awkward Potion in any of the three slots on the right side of the Brewing Menu. (You may place them in all 3 slots as well)
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Potion of Healing!
How to Make a Splash Potion of Healing in Minecraft 1.20?
Your ordinary Potion of Healing can be made throwable, extending its scope to target other mobs and entities. This can be done by converting it to a ‘Splash’ variant. To do so, you’ll need to add some Gunpowder to the existing potion!
Once you have the Gunpowder, follow these steps:
- Create an ordinary Potion of Healing (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Add a Gunpowder to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Splash Potion of Healing
How to Make a Lingering Potion of Healing in Minecraft 1.20?
The Splash Potion of Healing can target an entire area rather than just the Splash effect. This can be achieved by converting the Splash Potion into a ‘Lingering’ Potion. This requires the use of an additional ingredient – Dragon’s Breath!
Once you have the required materials, follow these steps to create the Lingering Potion of Healing
- Create a Splash Potion of Healing (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Insert a Dragon’s Breath in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Lingering Potion of Healing.
How to Make an Enhanced Potion of Healing in Minecraft 1.20?
Lastly, if you need a stronger buff than what the ordinary Potion provides, you can create a more potent Enhanced Potion of Healing. The enhanced variant of the Potion offers an ‘Instant Health II’ buff instead, increasing the HP restored to 8 (4 Hearts) instead of the ordinary 4 (2 Hearts).
To convert the base potion into an Enhanced Potion of Healing, you’ll need access to Glowstone Dust. Once you have that, follow these steps to create the enhanced potion!
- Create an ordinary or Splash Potion of Healing (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Insert Glowstone Dust to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Enhanced Potion of Healing!
We’ve now covered the entire creation process of the Potion of Healing, along with all its variants. Feel free to go out there and start brewing! If you’re having trouble collecting the ingredients necessary to make this Potion, refer to this portion of the guide.
Collecting the Ingredients for a Potion of Healing
Once you have a Brewing Stand, you’ll need extra ingredients to create a Potion of Healing. You need a Glistering Melon Slice and one Awkward Potion to make the base variant. Here’s how you can quickly obtain both of these ingredients!
Glistering Melon Slice
A Glistering Melon Slice has 3 primary sources – Crafting, Trading, and Chest Loot.
The most reliable method among these is to craft them yourself. This requires an ordinary Melon Slice and some Gold Nuggets. The former is a pretty easy-to-obtain item. On the other hand, Gold Nuggets can be crafted through some Gold Ore. This post is excellent for getting your hands on some Gold Ore!
Once you have both items, you can craft a Glistering Melon Slice. The image above showcases the Crafting Pattern for the process!
Your second source of the item is through Trading with Farmer Villagers having a Master Level. Such Villagers regularly offer trades for 3x Glistering Melon Slice, exchanging them for 4 of your Emeralds. This isn’t too bad of a trade, but it’s not the best either!
Lastly, you can find some Glistering Melon Slices as Chest Loot if you’re lucky! Only Chests found with Ruined Portals can contain the item. You’ll have a 7.3% chance of finding between 4 and 12 Glistering Melon Slices for such chests.
Combining Nether Wart with a Water Bottle on a Brewing Stand results in an Awkward Potion. This post explains the entire process!
Nether Wart is an item that can be collected from Nether Wart Crops. These crops usually spawn in Bastion Remnants and Nether Fortresses.
In the case of Nether Fortresses, with a little bit of luck, you may find them scattered near the staircases in Soul Sand Gardens. Bastion Remnants, on the other hand, typically generate these in the Central Courtyard areas of these structures.
You’ll also need a Water Bottle to create an Awkward Potion. Interacting with any water body when you have a Glass Bottle in your hand will fill it with water. This makes getting a Water Bottle pretty straightforward. Glass Bottles can be crafted using 3 blocks of Glass.
Their crafting pattern follows one Glass each in the left and right spots of the center row of the Crafting Grid. The last block should be placed in the middle of the bottom row. Doing this should give you 3x Glass Bottles!
