How to Make A Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft 1.20 (2024)

Using Potions is crucial during a battle in your survival journey. They can provide you with significant buffs, turning the tide of the fight! However, they have complex crafting procedures that can make most players shy away from the idea of brewing.

Don’t worry, though; we have you covered on that front! Today, we’ll explain the brewing process of a Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft 1.20!

How to Make A Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft?

You can create a Potion of Regeneration by combining a Ghast Tear with an Awkward Potion on a Brewing Stand in Minecraft. The Potion provides a ‘Regeneration’ buff for 45 seconds. It can further be converted to an ‘Enhanced’ or ‘Extended’ variant to increase its potency.

Before moving on to the brewing process, you’ll have to get your hands on a Ghast Tear, an Awkward Potion, and a Brewing Stand. Creating the Potion without these won’t be possible. The ordinary Potion of Regeneration gives you the ‘Regeneration’ buff for 45 seconds.

You can convert the Potion into both ‘Splash’ and ‘Lingering’ variants to alter how they can be used. Additionally, the Potion has both ‘Extended’ and ‘Enhanced’ options, allowing you to have flexibility in the perks received from the Potion!

The table below summarizes important information about brewing a Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft 1.20:

We’ll be assuming that you’ve already collected all the required ingredients and are ready to brew the Potion. If you’re facing difficulty obtaining these resources, refer to the end of the guide for help in finding them!

The Brewing Process

Brewing Pattern for Potion of Regeneration

After obtaining the materials mentioned above, follow these steps to brew your Potion of Regeneration!

  • Interact with the Brewing Stand to open up its menu.
  • Place some Blaze Powder in the left-most slot to charge up the stand.
  • Add a Ghast Tear to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
  • Place an Awkward Potion in any of the three slots on the right side of the Brewing Menu. (You may place them in all 3 slots as well)
  • Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Potion of Regeneration!

How to Make A Splash Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft?

Brewing Pattern for Splash Potion of Regeneration

If you need the Potion to act as a projectile that can be thrown to have the buff transferred to other mobs, you can create a ‘Splash’ Potion of Regeneration. This process requires the use of an additional resource – Gunpowder.

Once you have that, follow the steps below to create a Splash Potion of Regeneration!

  • Create an ordinary Potion of Regeneration (refer to the steps mentioned above).
  • Add a Gunpowder to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
  • Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Splash Potion of Regeneration!

How to Make A Lingering Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft?

Brewing Pattern for Lingering Potion of Regeneration

Your Splash Potion of Regeneration can be further enhanced to affect an area for an extended period. This allows you to transfer the buff from the Potion to all entities within that area. You’ll need to convert the Potion to a ‘Lingering’ Potion of Regeneration to do this. The process requires the use of a Dragon’s Breath.

Once you have the Dragon’s Breath, follow these steps to create a Lingering Potion of Regeneration:

  • Create a Splash Potion of Regeneration (refer to the steps mentioned above).
  • Insert a Dragon’s Breath in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
  • Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Lingering Potion of Regeneration!

How to Make an Extended Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft?

Brewing Pattern for Extended Potion of Regeneration

Suppose you feel the 45-second buff received from the Potion is too short-lived. In that case, you can increase this timer by converting the base variant to an ‘Extended’ Potion of Regeneration. Doing so will increase the duration of the buff to 2 minutes! Again, you’ll need to get your hands on some additional Redstone Dust resources to achieve this.

Follow these steps to create an Extended Potion of Regeneration:

  • Create an ordinary or Splash Potion of Regeneration (refer to the steps mentioned above).
  • Insert Redstone Dust to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
  • Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Extended Potion of Regeneration.

How to Make an Enhanced Potion of Regeneration in Minecraft?

Brewing Pattern for Enhanced Potion of Regeneration

If you prefer to increase the potency of the buff received from the Potion instead of extending its duration, you can always convert the base potion to an ‘Enhanced’ Potion of Regeneration. This more potent variant provides a ‘Regeneration II’ buff, allowing you to recover the same amount of HP in a smaller time frame! (1 HP every 1.2 seconds). You need Glowstone Dust as an extra ingredient to achieve this.

Once you have that, follow these steps to create the enhanced potion:

  • Create an ordinary or Splash Potion of Regeneration (refer to the steps mentioned above).
  • Insert Glowstone Dust to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
  • Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Enhanced Potion of Regeneration!

We’ve now covered everything you’ll need to know when brewing a Potion of Regeneration (and all its variants) in Minecraft. If you’re having trouble finding the ingredients to create the potion, keep reading for some help!

Collecting the Ingredients for A Potion of Regeneration

Once you get your hands on a Brewing Stand, you must collect a few more ingredients before making your Potion of Regeneration! To be more precise, you need a Ghast Tear and an Awkward Potion to start brewing. Here’s how you can quickly find both of these!

Ghast Tear

The only method of obtaining Ghast Tears in Minecraft is through Mob Loot. For every Ghast mob you kill, there’s a chance of finding 0-1 Ghast Tears as loot. The ‘Looting’ enchantment can help you with this process and increase the maximum Ghast Tears you can find.

If slayed with a ‘Looting III’ Enchantment active, each Ghast can drop up to 4 Ghast Tears!

Awkward Potion

Brewing Pattern for Awkward Potion

Brewing an Awkward Potion requires 1x Nether Wart and 1x Water Bottle.

The former is harvested from Nether Wart Crops found within Nether Fortresses and Bastion Remnants in the Netherworld.

These crops are commonly generated in the Central Courtyard area for the latter. In the case of Nether Fortresses, you can spot them near the staircases erupting in Soul Gardens!

The second and more accessible resource is the water bottle. All you have to do is hold a Glass Bottle in your hand and interact with any water body to obtain a Water Bottle. Glass Bottles to be used for this purpose can be crafted using 3 blocks of Glass.

The crafting pattern for these requires one Glass each to be placed in the left and right slots of the center row of the Crafting Grid. The last Glass will be placed in the middle of the bottom row. This should result in 3x Glass Bottles!
