Do you need clarification about how the Brewing process works in Minecraft? Well, we’ve all been there! As challenging as the process may seem, Brewing is integral to your survival journey. Potions can tip the tide of battles in your favor!
On that front, if you’re looking for some protection against Fire but don’t know how to brew the Potion for it – you’re in the right place! Today, we’ll cover the entire creation process of a Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft 1.20!
How to Make a Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft?
A Magma Cream and an Awkward Potion combined on a Brewing Stand create a Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft. The base Potion lasts for 3 minutes. This duration can be further increased by converting the base Potion into an Extended Potion of Fire Resistance.
Before moving on to the Brewing process, you’ll need one Magma Cream and Awkward Potion at the minimum to create the ordinary variant of the Potion. As explained, you can increase the longevity of the ‘Fire Resistance’ buff received from the Potion by converting it into an ‘Extended’ variant. Doing this requires the use of an additional resource – Glowstone Dust!
The table below summarizes important information about brewing a Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft 1.20:
|Potion of Fire Resistance
|Makes you invulnerable against Fire Damage (Fire, Lava, Magma Blocks, Campfires, Blaze etc)
|3 Minutes (Ordinary) – 8 minutes (Extended)
|1x Awkward Potion, 1x Magma Cream
|Splash, Lingering, & Extended
For the guide, we’ll assume that you’ve gathered all the required materials and are ready to move on to the brewing part. If you are having trouble collecting the brewing ingredients, refer to the end of this guide for help!
The Brewing Process
After obtaining the materials mentioned above, follow these steps to brew your Potion of Fire Resistance
- Interact with the Brewing Stand to open up its menu.
- Place some Blaze Powder in the left-most slot to charge up the stand.
- Insert a Magma Cream in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Add an Awkward Potion in any of the three slots on the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Potion of Fire Resistance!
How to Make a Splash Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft?
If you’re interested in making the Potion a throwable projectile, converting it into a ‘Splash’ variant is ideal. Doing so requires the use of an additional ingredient – Gunpowder.
Once you have the Gunpowder, follow these steps:
- Create an ordinary Potion of Fire Resistance (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Add a Gunpowder to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Splash Potion of Fire Resistance!
How to Make a Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft?
Suppose the Splash variant isn’t cutting it, and you want the Potion to affect a particular region for an extended period. In that case, the ‘Lingering’ variant might help. This creates a lingering mist of the Potion wherever you throw it, but it requires an extra ingredient – Dragon’s Breath.
Once you have the Dragon’s Breath, follow these steps to create the Lingering version of the Potion:
- Create a Splash Potion of Fire Resistance (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Insert a Dragon’s Breath in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Lingering Potion of Fire Resistance.
How to Make an Extended Potion of Fire Resistance in Minecraft?
The base variant of this Potion gives you the Fire Resistance buff for 3 minutes. This ordinary Potion might not cut it if you plan on fighting some Blaze mobs!
In such a case, you can turn the base Potion into an Extended Potion of Fire Resistance, lasting 8 whole minutes! This requires the use of an additional resource – Redstone Dust.
Once you have the dust, follow these steps to create the extended variant:
- Create an ordinary or Splash Potion of Fire Resistance (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Insert Redstone Dust to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Extended Potion of Fire Resistance!
This covers everything you need to know on brewing a Potion of Fire Resistance (and all its variants) in Minecraft 1.20! Feel free to test your newly crafted Potion on some pools of Lava.
If you’re having trouble collecting the resources required to brew the Potion, refer to the following portion of the guide:
Collecting the Ingredients for a Potion of Fire Resistance
After creating a Brewing Stand and collecting Blaze Powder for fuel, you’ll need additional resources to craft a Potion of Fire Resistance. To be more precise, you need to get your hands on some Magma Cream and an Awkward Potion – here is how you can get both of them!
To create an Awkward Potion, combine some Nether Wart with a Water Bottle using a Brewing Stand. This post explains that entire process!
Nether Wart, is an item found from Nether Wart Crops. These are commonly seen within Bastion Remnants and Nether Fortresses.
Finding them in Bastion Remnants is relatively easy. They’re commonly seen in the Central Courtyards found within these structures. In Nether Fortresses, however, these are only seen growing in Soul Sand Gardens (near staircases).
You’ll also need a Water Bottle to create an Awkward Potion. Having a Glass Bottle in your hand when interacting with water fills it up – resulting in a Water Bottle! Glass Bottles used for this purpose require 3x Glass to craft.
Their Crafting Pattern requires placing 1x Glass each in the right and left spots in the middle row of the Crafting Grid. The final block is to be placed in the center of the bottom row.
Magma Cream has 3 primary sources – Mob Loot, Crafting, and Chest Loot.
All Magma Cube mobs (except mini-sized ones) can drop Magma Cream when killed. The amount varies between 0-1, depending on your luck! This drop increases with the ‘Looting’ Enchantment and can go up to 4 Magma Cream for ‘Looting III.’
You may also obtain some Magma Cream through crafting. This is done by combining ‘Slimeball’ and ‘Blaze Powder’ as ingredients. For your convenience, the Crafting Pattern for this has been shown in the image above!
Finally, varying amounts of Magma Cream can be found through Generic and Treasure Chests generated within Bastion Remnants. The former has a 44.1% chance of containing 2-6 Magma Creams. On the other hand, the latter has a 33.7% chance of featuring anywhere between 3-8 Magma Creams per Chest!
