Katie Bell was a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She started a year earlier than Harry Potter and was also a member of Gryffindor house.
At school, she was principally known for her talent as a Quidditch player. She joined the team in her second year as a Chaser and continued to play throughout her time at Hogwarts. She also joined the DA to learn defense against the dark arts from Harry in her sixth year.
Katie seems to have had relatively bad luck when it came to her health and accidents. She caught Mumblemumps in her third year and had several accidents on the Quidditch pitch.
Most seriously, in her seventh year, she was put under the Imperius curse by the landlady of the Three Broomsticks, Madam Rosmerta, who herself was under an Imperius curse by Draco Malfoy. She was compelled to take a package to Hogwarts to give to Professor Dumbledore.
On the return journey, Katie argued with her friend Leanne, who did not understand her insistence and secrecy surrounding the gift. During the argument, the package broke open and Katie grazed the opal necklace inside with a tiny portion of skin through a hole in her glove.
The necklace was cursed and meant to kill Professor Dumbledore. Since Katie barely touched the necklace, she was caused incredible pain but was not killed. She did have to spend six months at St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries but later returned to school and the Quidditch team.
Nevertheless, because Katie was out of school for six months, she was forced to repeat a year and so was present at the school when Snape became principal. She fought alongside her friends during the Battle of Hogwarts, which she survived.
About Katie Bell
|Blood Status||Pure-Blood or Half-Blood|
|Zodiac Sign||Pisces (speculative)|
Katie Bell Personality Type & Traits
Katie Bell comes across as a humble person and good friend with a talent for sports. She was made a Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team in her second year, which is young, and returned to the pitch as soon as she could, even after suffering a near-death experience that kept her in hospital for six months.
Katie was very loyal to her house and her friends and was one of the first to support Harry in the Triwizard Tournament as a fellow Gryffindor. She was also quick to step in and defend Hermione when Draco Malfoy called her a mud-blood.
When Harry was made the Quidditch captain in her sixth year, Katie had no complaints despite being an older student. She also insisted on trying out with everyone else and not receiving any favoritism. Fortunately, her talent secured her place on the team.
Katie Bell Zodiac Sign & Birthday
We do not know Katie Bell’s birthday and only know that she started at Hogwarts a year earlier than Harry. Nevertheless, her natural popularity, humility when it comes to her own talents, and desire to support her house suggests that she might be a Pisces. People born under this sign make the best friends and are often the glue that holds communities together.
Is Katie Bell a Pure Blood?
While Katie’s blood status is never specifically stated, she must be pure or half-blood. This is indicated by the fact that Draco Malfoy did not turn on her when she stepped in to help defend Hermione Granger after he called her a mud-blood.
Katie Bell Wand
We are never told about the composition of Katie Bell’s wand. But presumably, she was matched with a wand by Ollivander before she started attending Hogwarts in 1990.
Katie Bell Patronus
A Patronus is a non-corporeal protective shield that some wizards can conjure to protect themselves against dark forces, such as the dementors.
We must assume that Katie learned how to cast a Patronus as a member of the DA, but we are never told what form her Patronus takes.
Katie Bell Family Tree
The author reveals nothing about Katie Bell’s family tree, instead, we learn much more about her friends. Katie was best friends with Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet during her first six years at Hogwarts. They presumably bonded as fellow Chasers on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
Who did Katie Bell Marry?
We know nothing about what happened to Katie Bell after she left Hogwarts or who she might have married. She has no known romantic connections to any other characters. In her third year, she did describe Cedric Diggory as the “strong and silent” type, but the following year was happy to see Harry compete against him in the Triwizard Tournament.
Why did Draco Malfoy Curse Katie Bell?
Draco Malfoy was responsible for cursing Katie Bell. He put an Imperius curse on Three Broomsticks innkeeper Madam Rosmerta, forcing her to place an Imperius curse on Katie. Malfoy does not seem to have targeted Katie specifically. She was more in the wrong place at the wrong time.
During the Hogsmeade weekend on 11 October in Katie’s seventh year, she separated from her friend Leanne to use the bathroom at the Three Broomsticks. Madam Rosmerta, under the influence of the Imperius curse, presumably saw the student alone in the bathroom as an opportunity. She compelled Katie to take a package and deliver it to Professor Dumbledore as a present.
Katie’s friend Leanne notices the strange change in her friend’s behavior and challenged her on why she would take an unknown object back to Hogwarts to give to Professor Dumbledore. When Katie could not explain herself, the two seem to have struggled over the package and it broke open.
Inside was a cursed opal necklace meant to kill whoever touched it. Fortunately, Katie was wearing gloves and only touched the necklace through a tiny hole in her glove. She suffered terrible pain and suffering but was not killed. She was forced to pass six months recovering in St Mungo’s hospital.
When Katie recovered from the ordeal, she had no recollection of what happened after she pushed open the door to the bathroom. She tells Harry this when he asks her about it.
Katie Bell Quidditch
Katie must be a very talented Quidditch player, as she made the Gryffindor House team in her second year. She joined Angelina Johnson and Alicia Spinnet as Chaser.
She must have been a good player even then, as we know that she was targeted for a foul on at least one occasion by Slytherin during her first year on the team. Despite being hit in the back of the head by a Bludger, Katie played out the game and Gryffindor went on to win the match.
She was targeted for a foul again when playing Slytherin for the House cup in her fourth year. Slytherin player Graham Montague gripped Katie’s hair and made her do a cartwheel in the air. She was awarded a penalty for the incident and scored. Together Gryffindor won the match and the cup!
In her sixth year, Katie supported Ron when he was put on the team, despite the fact that his clumsiness saw her take a Quaffle in the face. She also helped forcibly restrain her friend and teammate Fred Weasley when he wanted to attack Malfoy for insulting his family.
Katie insisted on trying out for the team again in her seventh year when Harry became captain, saying that she wanted no favors. Of course, she made the team and continued to play in the position of Chaser, this time alongside Ginny Weasley and Demelza Robins.
Her incident with the cursed pal necklace saw her miss a number of games, during which she was replaced by Dean Thomas. But she returned and played in the Quidditch cup final against Ravenclaw, which Gryffindor won.
What Happened to Katie Bell?
We know that Katie Bell fought alongside her friends at the Battle of Hogwarts and survived the battle, but we don’t know what she did with her life after that. We like to think that she became a professional Quidditch player.
