After 5 long and tedious years, fans of Konosuba or “Kono Subarashii Sekai Ni Shukufuku Wo!” are finally getting a new season.
Redditors were ecstatic about the news with most of the comments praising the “Gacha Whales”.
Gacha Whales are individuals that spend large amounts of money on in-game purchases to support the creators.
So far, there are 2 seasons with a total of 20 episodes.
The announcement of the third season was made on a stream in late May of 2022. Crunchyroll celebrated the announcement with a new visual reveal.
Konosuba anime is an adaptation of a light novel with the same name. Akatsuki Natsume wrote the novel while Mishima Kurone illustrated it.
Furthermore, there is news of a Konosuba Megumin Spin off, along with a couple of movies already made.
Konosuba Release Date Speculation
Unfortunately, we do not have an official release date. However, we should be getting one as we approach the end of the year.
Fans are hopeful because that would be around 6 months after the initial official announcement.
What we do know, is the fact that the show is currently in production and fans speculate that it should be out in a little over a year.
A speculative date of late 2023 to early 2024 gives the studios enough time to maintain the quality that the viewers are used to without making them wait too long.
Konosuba Season 3 Plot Speculation
Since there is no official trailer out yet, it will be hard to make speculations, but we can assume the direction the show will go in based on its past.
Seasons 1 and 2 of the anime covered the first 4 chapters of the light novel while the movie covered the 5th. Season 3 will likely begin with the 6th chapter.
The goal of the squad will remain the same; the defeat of the Devil King. It would be a pretty solid guess to think that season 3 will continue with, and carry on, the tradition of Kazuma and his squad fighting with the Devil King’s soldiers.
We can also expect there to be some significant changes like Megumin returning to her village or other plot twists. It is purely speculation though.
We can be sure that whatever trajectory the anime goes in, it will be a fun-filled adventure!
Konosuba Season 3 Cast
From Season 1 onwards, Jun Fukushima voiced Kazuma, Rie Takahashi voiced Megumin, Sora Amamiya voiced Aqua and Ai Kayano voiced Darkness.
Yujiro Abe will return as the director while Takaomi Kanyasaki will be the chief supervisor. Koichi Kikuta will also return as the character designer.
Since most of the cast has remained the same since the very start, including in the movies, we can assume that they will remain unchanged for the third season as well.
As of now, the producers of the anime have not yet made any official announcements regarding the cast but due to the popularity of the anime, we can expect some celebrities to make an appearance for the third season.
Where Will Konosuba Season 3 Be Available?
Just like the first two seasons, we can expect Season 3 to be available on Crunchyroll in countries other than Japan.
Crunchyroll has exclusive rights to Konosuba in various countries outside of Asia like the United States, United Kingdom and almost all of Europe.
Where Crunchyroll does not have rights, other streaming services, especially Netflix, often streams the anime.
According to a Reddit post, countries like Taiwan and India have the show on Netflix.
What Genre Is Konosuba?
Konosuba is rare in the sense that it is, in many ways, a satire and parody of the Isekai genre.
Where a typical Isekai anime gives its protagonist some special ability, Konosuba’s main character Kazuma is a pretty unremarkable individual with no such powers.
In an almost ironic way, that is what makes it one of the best modern-day Isekai animes.
How Many Episodes Will Konosuba Season 3 Have?
Going by the past two seasons, we can expect the third season of Konosuba to have 10 episodes as well with an additional OVA episode at the end.
The first two seasons covered 1-4 light novels volumes with the movie covering the 5th.
The third season will begin with the 6th volume.
How Successful Were The First Two Seasons?
Konosuba has enjoyed worldwide success from the very start. It has a rating of 8.1 on myanimelist and a 7.8 on IMDb.
It is ranked 39 on myanimelist in terms of popularity.
They were so successful in fact, that the anime got a few movies as well as a spinoff.
One reviewer described the anime as:
“This anime is groundbreaking and amazing in so many ways. Its characters are very unforgettable, and the humor makes you laugh so hard it makes your head hurt! At first, I was not very fond of season 1, but as it kept going, I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for the series. Now, I’m a light novel reader for the series, and I have to say, its fantastic! Very fun and entertaining!”
