She became the girlfriend of Ron Weasley for a few months during their sixth year at school. She was a member of the DA and fought during the Battle of Hogwarts, during which she sadly died.
About Lavender Brown
|Born||1979/1980 – 2 May 1998|
|Occupation||Student DA Member|
|Zodiac Sign||Libra (speculative)|
Lavender Brown at Hogwarts
Lavender was the very first student to be sorted into Gryffindor house in 1991. She soon struck up a close friendship with fellow Gryffindor Parvati Patil, but never formed a close friendship with Hermione Granger.
In her second year Lavender was a member of the duelling club. She presumably had a crush on Professor Lockhart, like many of the girls. Lavender returned Professor Lockhart’s wand to him when he was disarmed by Professor Snape.
In her third year, Lavender started taking divination and care of magical creature classes, like many of the other students. She was very impressed by Professor Trelawney and interested in divination. Nevertheless, despite being a pure blood witch, she did not know about the Grim when Professor Trelawney saw one in Harry’s tea leaves.
She believed that Professor Trelawney predicted the unexpected death of her baby rabbit Binky. Lavender was unimpressed when Hermione tried to debunk the prediction.
In her fourth year, Harry asked Lavender if she would go to the Yule Ball with Ron. She said no because she was already going with fellow Gryffindor Seamus Finnigan. She may have regretted this refusal since she later developed a crush on Ron.
Lavender has the fortitude of her fellow Gryffindors. She helped Hagrid round up the blast ended skrewts, rather than hide in Hagrid’s house, even though her robes got singed. She also recovered when Barty Crouch Jnr, pretending to be Professor Moody, used the Imperius curse on her to make her imitate a squirrel, and presumably also used the Cruciatus curse on her and other students.
Lavender Brown & The DA
When she returned in her fifth year, Lavender did not initially believe Harry and Dumbledore that Lord Voldemort had returned. Hermione told her off about this. When Seamus declared his support for Harry, Lavender started to come around as well. She went on to become one of the founding members of the DA. While she worked hard, she was never able to summon a corporeal Patronus. This caused her significant frustration.
Nevertheless, she seems to have done well in her exams as she got good marks in her O.W.L.s in defence against the dark arts, charms, and transfiguration. She was able to continue with these subjects in her sixth year. She also presumably continued with divination, as she always admired Professor Trelawney, and had a crush on their new divination teacher, the centaur Firenze.
Lavender Brown & Ron Weasley Dating
By the time she started her sixth year, Lavender had developed a crush on Ron Weasley. She often flirted with him, complimented him, and wished him luck in his Quidditch games.
After a particularly good performance, Lavender decided to pursue things further and she ended up kissing Ron in front of everyone in Gryffindor common room. This caused conflict between Ron and Hermione, as the two had unadmitted feelings for one another. Lavender seems to have been aware of this as she had animosity towards Hermione.
The two had a whirlwind romance for a few months. Lavender was very open in her affections. For example, she gave Ron a necklace that read “My Sweetheart” for Christmas.
Not long after the holidays, their relationship started going downhill. On Ron’s birthday on March 1st he was inadvertently poisoned and had to spend significant time in the hospital wing. There he would avoid Lavender, pretending to be asleep whenever she turned up. Instead, Lavender would try to talk to Harry about Ron and her feelings.
Eventually, Ron and Hermione began to rekindle their friendship at the same time, Lavender got fed up and broke up with Ron. He was very happy about the outcome, but did not have the courage to do it himself.
Lavender Brown & The Second Wizarding War
In her seventh year, Lavender returned to Hogwarts. All wizard children were required to attend Hogwarts by the Ministry of Magic, under the influence of Lord Voldemort. She continued to be a member of the DA and to fight the Death Eaters within Hogwarts. She was one of the students who needed to go into hiding in the Room of Requirement before the end of the year.
Lavender stayed and fought at the Battle of Hogwarts, and unfortunately, she did not survive. She fell from a window and was then pounced upon by Fenrir Greyback. Hermione blasted the werewolf off Lavender, but she still died of her injuries.
However, since Lavender was mauled by a werewolf, it is possible that she survived and became a werewolf herself. She may have fled, following her new wolf instincts, and was simply presumed dead.
Lavender Brown Personality Type & Traits
Lavender Brown is portrayed as a bit ditsy and superficial, but she wasn’t really different from many other girls her age going through puberty and discovering her interest in boys. She was clearly very intelligent, as she did well in her O.W.L.s, and brave as a member of the DA and during the Battle of Hogwarts.
Lavender also knew her own mind and went after what she wanted. She was the one to make a move on Ron when she was interested. Lavender also broke up with him when she realized that the relationship wasn’t working. This is something that Ron should have done, but he didn’t have the guts.
Lavender Brown Zodiac Sign & Birthday
J.K. Rowling never tells us Lavender’s birthday, so we do not know her Zodiac sign. Fans speculate that she may be a Libra. People born under Libra are whip smart, but also very socially conscious. They are likely to be concerned about what other’s think and be easily swayed. Lavender was initially convinced by the propaganda of the Ministry of Magic that Dumbledore and Harry were lying about Lord Voldemort. She was then convinced otherwise by her friends.
Libras tend to prefer to form close friendships, like Lavender does with Parvati Patil. You can expect to see a Libra and their best friend always together. They also fall in love often, and we see Lavender develop a number of crushes throughout the course of the books.
Lavender Brown Family Tree
We do not know anything about the family of Lavender Brown, but we are told that she is a pure blood witch. All four of her grandparents must have been pure blood as well. This is interesting, since Brown is not mentioned among the names of old Pure Blood families.
Lavender Brown Magical Abilities
While Lavender is described as a bit frivolous, she clearly had some good magical abilities. She did well enough in defense against the dark arts, charms, and configuration to advance from O.W.L. to N.E.W.T. level. Professor Trelawney also thought that she had a talent for divination.
We do know that as a member of the DA, Lavender struggled to produce a corporeal Patronus. Her Patronus was still just wispy mist at the end of her fifth year. But the Patronus is a complicated charm and there is nothing to say that Lavender would not have mastered it in time.
How Is Lavender Brown described in the Books?
We are never given a description of what Lavender Brown looks like in the books. The closest we get is when we are told in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince that when she and Ron were making out in the common room, it was difficult to tell whose hands were whose. This suggests that she had a similar pale complexion to red-headed Ron.
Who is Lavender Brown’s Best Friend?
From her first year, Lavender brown was best friends with fellow Gryffindor Pavati Patil. Lavender and Parvati are almost always together. When Harry asked Pavati to the Yule Ball in his fourth year, Lavender was there as well. Harry asked if she would go with Ron, but she said no as she was already going with Seamus.
