Does the prospect of remembering 15 different crafting recipes for each potion in Minecraft trouble you? Well, you’re not alone because we’ve all been there. Nevertheless, potions are extremely handy, and knowing how to craft them is necessary!
Don’t worry, though; we’re here to help! Today, we’ll cover the entire creation process of the Potion of Night Vision (and all its variants) in Minecraft 1.20.
How to Make a Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft 1.20?
Combining a Golden Carrot with an Awkward Potion on a Brewing Stand creates a Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft 1.20. This can further be converted into an Extended Potion of Night Vision lasting 8 minutes. Both Splash and Lingering variants are available for this potion.
As explained, the minimum ingredients to craft a Potion of Weakness include a Golden Carrot and an Awkward Potion. As with other potions, an ordinary potion can be converted into its ‘Splash’ and ‘Lingering’ variants. Doing so, however, requires additional resources such as Gunpowder and Dragon’s Breath.
The ordinary potion can also be converted into an extended variation using Redstone Dust.
The table below summarizes important information about brewing a Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft 1.20:
|Potion of Night Vision
|Makes all areas (including underwater) appear at maximum light levels
|3 Minutes (Ordinary)
|1x Golden Carrot, 1x Awkward Potion
|Splash, Lingering, & Extended
This guide will assume that you’ve already gathered the necessary ingredients and are ready to brew. If you need help collecting the materials required to make the potion, refer to the guide’s end!
The Brewing Process
After obtaining the materials mentioned above, follow these steps to brew your Potion of Night Vision!
- Interact with the Brewing Stand to open up its menu.
- Place some Blaze Powder in the left-most slot to charge up the stand.
- Insert a Golden Carrot in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Put in an Awkward Potion in any of the three slots on the right side of the Brewing Menu. (You may place them in all 3 slots as well)
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Potion of Night Vision!
How to Make a Splash Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft 1.20?
If you want to make the potion transferable and throw it at other mobs/players, you can convert the ordinary variant just created into a ‘Splash’ Potion of Night Vision. To do so, you’ll need to add some Gunpowder to the existing potion.
Once you have the Gunpowder, follow these steps:
- Create an ordinary Potion of Night Vision (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Add a Gunpowder to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Splash Potion of Night Vision.
How to Make a Lingering Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft 1.20?
To enhance the effect of the Splash potion and convert it into a cloud of mist covering an area, you can convert it into a ‘Lingering’ Potion of Night Vision. To do this, you’ll have to get your hands on some Dragon’s Breath!
Once you have the required materials, follow these steps to create the Lingering version of the potion:
- Create a Splash Potion of Night Vision (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Insert a Dragon’s Breath in the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Lingering Potion of Night Vision.
How to Make an Extended Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft 1.20?
A regular Potion of Night Vision lasts upto 3 minutes. Granted, this is a generous amount of time, but it can still be inadequate when you’re stuck in a survival journey. To counter this, you can extend the effect of the ordinary potion to 8 full minutes by converting it into an Extended Potion of Night Vision.
To do this, you’ll need to obtain some Redstone Dust. Once you have that, follow these steps and you’re set!
- Create an ordinary or Splash Potion of Night Vision (refer to the steps mentioned above).
- Insert Redstone Dust to the top-most slot at the right side of the Brewing Menu.
- Wait for the Brewing process to complete, and collect the resulting Extended Potion of Night Vision!
This fully covers everything you need to know about creating a Potion of Night Vision along with its possible variants in Minecraft 1.20. Nevertheless, if you’re having a tough time collecting the ingredients required to create this potion, feel free to refer to the portion of the guide below!
Collecting the Ingredients for a Potion of Night Vision
Once you have access to a Brewing Stand, you need some additional ingredients to craft a Potion of Night Vision. Specifically, you must collect/craft a Golden Carrot and an Awkward Potion before you can go ahead with the brewing process.
Here’s how you can easily find both of these items!
Golden Carrots are food items that can be traded with Villagers, crafted, and found inside Chests.
For trading, Farmer Villagers having a ‘Master’ level have a 50% chance to put up an exchange of 3 Golden Carrots for 3 Emeralds.
They can also be crafted by combining an ordinary Carrot with 9 Gold Nuggets. The former is easily obtained, whereas the latter can be collected from a Gold Ingot. If you’re having trouble finding Gold Ore for this purpose, check this post out!
The last source for Golden Carrots are Chests scattered throughout the region. You can find a multitude of the Carrots within different types of Chests. Each of these Chests are showcased in the table below, along with the amount and carrying probabilities of Golden Carrots within.
|Qty. of Carrots
|Probability of Spawn
|Ice Box Chest
|Hoglin Stable Chest
An Awkward Potion can be obtained by combining Nether Wart with a Water Bottle on a Brewing Stand.
Nether Wart is primarily obtained through harvesting Nether Wart Crops. These are naturally found in two central locations – Nether Fortresses and Bastion Remnants. For the former, they commonly generate near stairwells located in small Soul Sand Gardens.
For the latter, Nether Wart can commonly be spotted growing in the central courtyard areas of Bastion Remnants (with housing units). One way or another, you’ll have to make a trip to the Nether world!
The second and more accessible ingredient to obtain for an Awkward Potion is a Water Bottle. Interacting with any source of water while having a Glass Bottle in hand fills it up with water – giving you a Water Bottle. Glass Bottles can be crafted using 3 blocks of Glass.
To craft them, you’ll have to place one Glass each in the left and right spots of the center row of the Crafting Grid. Then, place the last Glass block in the middle of the bottom row. The result should be 3x Glass Bottles!
