10 Most Famous Hufflepuff Characters in Harry Potter

Hufflepuff is viewed as the House that no one would choose for themselves. We see this exhibited by Draco Malfoy’s comment, “Imagine being in Hufflepuff, I think I’d leave, wouldn’t you?”

However, this stereotype could not be further from the truth. Hufflepuffs are hard-working, loyal, accepting, and they treat everyone equally.

In this article, you will learn about some of the most famous and notable witches and wizards to come from Hufflepuff.

10. Hannah Abbott

Hannah Abbott is a half-blood witch who was born into the esteemed Abbott family. The Abbott family was a part of a group of British pure-blood families called “The Sacred Twenty-Eight.” A few other ones included the Blacks, the Malfoys, the Longbottoms, and the Lestranges.

Her most notable act at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was when she joined Dumbledore’s Army. She fought bravely alongside the others to defend Hogwarts against Voldemort.

Unfortunately, shortly after she joined, she heard of her mother’s murder by a Death Eater. She decided to leave Hogwarts for the remainder of the year.

When she returned, she rejoined Dumbledore’s Army, led at that time by Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood.

Later in life, she married Neville Longbottom and became the Landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.

9. Susan Bones

Susan Bones is another half-blood witch that was born into a prominent family. Her aunt, Amelia Bones, worked at The Ministry of Magic. Her aunt was present at Harry Potter’s trial, along with Dolores Umbridge.

Sadly for Susan, almost her entire family was murdered by Voldemort. As a result, she grew close to her aunt, who was later also murdered by him.

Susan was among those who protected Harry when Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle attacked him on the Hogwarts Express. She was also a member of Dumbledore’s Army and good friends with Hermione Grainger.

8. Theseus Scamander

Although he did not share his brother’s fascination for magical creatures, he was highly intelligent and talented.

7. Fat Friar

You may be familiar with this plump and jolly ghost that roams the Hogwarts halls.

Fat Friar was a wizard who was under the tutelage of Helga Hufflepuff during his time at Hogwarts.

He was caring, kind, and exhibited all the character traits of a true Hufflepuff. He pledged his life to religion but was executed after people in the church grew suspicious of his healing abilities.

6. Teddy Lupin

Additionally, Harry Potter was named Teddy’s godfather and helped raise him.

While he did not become a werewolf like his father, he did inherit his mother’s metamorphic abilities.

He started attending Hogwarts in 2009, and he became Head Boy during his seventh year.

5. Newt Scamander

You might know Newton “Newt” Scamander as the famous Magizoologist and author of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

His obsession with magical creatures started at a young age since his mother was a breeder of Hippogriffs.

He started school at Hogwarts in 1908 but was expelled when he took the fall for his classmate (and crush), Leta Lestrange.

She had used a spell that put another student’s life in danger which was against school policy. Even though Dumbledore did not think he was at fault, he still got expelled.

Newt went on to join the Ministry of Magic and decided to travel the world. Impressively he visited over one hundred countries and five continents.

4. Cedric Diggory

Cedric Diggory is a Hufflepuff House fan favorite. He was seeker and captain of the Hufflepuff quidditch team but was most known for competing in the Triwizard Tournament.

He was supported by all the other houses (including Slytherin) when he was picked as the Hogwarts champion for the tournament.

However, he was also one of the few who treated Harry with kindness and respect when Harry was also chosen.

Cedric’s story comes to a tragic end when he is murdered by Peter Pettigrew (as ordered to do so by Voldemort).

Cedric’s legacy lives on when his death inspires Harry and others to form Dumbledore’s Army.

3. Nymphadora Tonks

Although she struggled greatly in her academics at Hogwarts, Nymphadora Tonks (“Tonks”) was still considered one of the most brilliant and skilled witches and Auror.

Not to mention she was also a metamorphmagus, meaning she could change her appearance at any time.

She may not have had the accomplishments she did if not for Professor Sprout’s encouragement when Tonks was a student. Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody later trained tonks to be an Auror in the Ministry of Magic Auror Office.

Tonks was an independent and fiercely loyal friend to all. She was a devoted wife to Remus Lupin and a caring mother to their son Teddy Lupin.

She fought in many battles, but the most notable was the Battle of Hogwarts, where she was killed by her aunt and Death Eater, Bellatrix Lestrange.

2. Pamona Sprout

Pamona Sprout was one of the purest Hufflepuffs you would ever meet. She believed strongly in all her students, and in doing so, she taught them to believe in themselves.

After being a Hufflepuff herself, she then became the Head of Hufflepuff House and Head of the Herbology Department.

She proved her consistent loyalty through her years of friendship with Minerva McGonagall. They both attended Hogwarts together and were close friends despite being in different houses.

Perhaps the most memorable act performed by Professor Sprout was her cultivation of Mandrakes that were used to cure those who the Slytherin monster had petrified.

The most famous Hufflepuff in Harry Potter is Helga Hufflepuff. Helga embodied everything that Hufflepuff House stood for. She was compassionate, kind, accepting of others, loyal, and diligent.

Helga is one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and she was able to bring the four of them together despite their differences.

Helga reiterated her true nature when she arranged for house-elves to work in the Hogwarts kitchen so that they would no longer be taken advantage of or abused.

Additionally, she stood firm in the fact that Hogwarts was not only for pureblood witches and wizards but muggle-borns as well.

She stood up for what she believed in, and the Hufflepuff legacy still lives on because of her.
