Sturgis Podmore Early Life

Sturgis Podmore was a wizard born in the 1950s. Like most young British wizards, he would have attended Hogwarts to learn the magical arts. It is unclear whether he was from a magical or muggle family.

When Lord Voldemort first rose to power, Podmore joined the Order of the Phoenix under Albus Dumbledore to fight the rise of the dark arts. He re-joined the order when Dumbledore announced that Voldemort had returned. This was when the Ministry was denying this fact and trying to discredit Dumbledore.

Podmore first met Harry Potter as a member of the Advance Guard that escorted him from Privett Drive to the headquarters of the Order at 12 Grimmauld Place. He gave Harry a quick wink and went upstairs to get his trunk.

Podmore and the Department of Mysteries

Podmore was later given the task of standing guard outside the Department of Mysteries, under an invisibility cloak. He was to prevent Lord Voldemort or his Death Eaters from entering and retrieving the full prophecy about Harry and Lord Voldemort.

He was on duty on 12 August 1995, the day that Harry was brought in for his disciplinary hearing. Harry walked past the entrance but did not see Podmore under the invisibility cloak. On that same day, Lucius Malfoy was also at the Ministry. He took the opportunity to place Podmore under the Imperius Curse, urging him to retrieve the prophecy.

Podmore Arrested

The next time that Podmore was back on guard, on 30 August 1995, he attempted to enter the Department of Mysteries and retrieve the prophecy. However, Podmore was caught. He was sentenced to six months in Azkaban when he refused to speak in his defense, no doubt as a result of the Curse.

Sturgis Podmore, 38, of number two, Laburnum Gardens, Clapham, has appeared in front of the Wizengamot charged with trespass and attempted robbery at the Ministry of Magic on 31st August. Podmore was arrested by Ministry of Magic watchwizard Eric Munch, who found him attempting to force his way through a top-security door at one o’clock in the morning. Podmore, who refused to speak in his own defence, was convicted on both charges and sentenced to six months in Azkaban.

Daily Prophet, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Before his attempt, Podmore had been acting strangely. For example, he did not return Moody’s invisibility cloak. He also did not show up to help transport Harry from Grimmauld Place to King’s Cross Station.

In March 1996, when the return of Lord Voldemort was finally acknowledged by the Ministry, Podmore was released from Azkaban. He presumably re-joined the Order, but we know nothing of his actions during the rest of the wizarding war.

Sturgis Podmore Personality Type & Traits

Podmore comes across as a brave and dedicated wizard who prefers to get down to business. We see this when he first meets Harry. He just gives him a wink and gets on with the job at hand.

Sturgis Podmore Zodiac Sign & Birthday

Podmore must have been born in 1956/7, as he was 38 when he was arrested in 1995. His personality suggests that his zodiac sign might be Capricorn. People born under this sign tend to be hard workers who keep their heads down rather than crave the spotlight.
