Terry Boot was a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the same year as Harry Potter. He was a member of Ravenclaw house. Since this house prizes intelligence, Terry was presumably highly gifted himself. He was one of the only twelve students that earned a good enough grade to proceed to N.E.W.T. level positions.
Terry was also highly proactive about magical combat and defence against the dark arts. We know that in his second year he was a member of the duelling club. Professor Lockhart told terry to pinsh his wound to stop it bleeding after an accident while practicing. This suggests a bloody nose.
Terry Boot was waiting for Dumbledore in his office for an unknown reason during his fourth year. He was interested in the sword of Gryffindor, while he was there. One of the portraits told him that Harry Potter has used the sword to slay a Basilisk, a story that Terry was later keen to confirm with Harry.
About Terry Boot
|Blood Status||Pure-Blood or Half-Blood|
|Occupation||Student DA Member|
|Zodiac Sign||Aries (speculative)|
Terry Boot & Dumbledore’s Army
In his fifth year, Terry was one of the founding members of the D.A. Hermione Granger set up the DA to allow students to learn defense against the dark arts from Harry Potter when the school was under the direction of Dolores Umbridge. He was at the founding meeting at the Hog’s Head in Hogsmeade.
Terry was very impressed when Hermione was able to perform the Protean Charm on a number of coins to allow the D.A. to communicate remotely. He remarked that it was a N.E.W.T. level spell.
But the fact that Terry was aware of the spell at all suggests that he too may have been reading ahead, like a Ravenclaw would want to do. As a member of the DA he came to Harry’s aid when Malfoy and his cronies tried to attack Harry on the train journey home from Hogwarts.
In his sixth year, when Professor Slughorn introduced the class to the Felix Felicitas potion, Terry wondered loudly why people didn’t drink it all the time. He was informed by Slughorn that it causes recklessness and dangerous overconfidence when used too much. But this reflects, again, Terry’s ambitions and interests.
Terry Boot returned to Hogwarts in his seventh year. This indicates that he must have been a pure blood or at least half-blood wizard. Indeed, he may be a descendant of Webster Boot, the adopted son of Isolt Sayre, an heir of Salazar Slytherin and the founder of Ilvermorny School in North America.
Terry Boot & The Second Wizarding War
Terry Boot continued to be an active member of the DA in his seventh year. He worked against the Death Eaters in Hogwarts alongside Neville Longbottom and Ginny Weasley.
He was punished particularly harshly when he celebrated Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s heist at Gringotts in the great hall. Boot was tortured by the Carrows, presumably using the Cruciatus Curse.
He must have stayed and fought at the Battle of Hogwarts, which he must have survived as his name is not listed among the fallen. We do not know what he went on to do after school.
Terry Boot Personality Type & Traits
Terry Boot is clearly highly intelligent. He was a member of Ravenclaw house, and while still at O.W.L. level, he chose to read ahead and learn about the types of spells and charms he would study at N.E.W.T. level, even if he did not master the spells. Terry is interested in combative magic. He was drawn to Gryffindor’s sword, the duelling club, and the D.A.
Terry Boot Zodiac Sign & Birthday
We are never told Terry Boot’s birthday, so we do not know his Zodiac sign. But fans speculate that he may be an Aries. People born under Aries are naturally combative and enjoy the martial arts. While they believe in hard work, Aries also believe in luck. This would align with Terry’s interest in the Felix Felicitas potion.
Terry Boot Family Tree
We know very little of Terry Boot’s family, but he must have been a pure blood or half blood wizard. This is reflected by the fact that he was allowed to return to Hogwart’s in his seventh year when it was under the control of blood purists. He may be a relative of Webster Boot. He was the adopted son of the founders of Ilvermorny School in North America, James Stewart, a No-Maj, and Isolt Sayre, a descendant of Salazar Slytherin.
Webster Boot founded Wampus House. This house favors warriors and produces students with a talent for potions, very much like Terry. Webster Boot moved to England after falling in love with a young Scottish witch who worked for the Ministry of Magic there.
Why Was Terry Boot in Dumbledor’s Office?
We are not told why Terry Boot found himself alone in Dumbledore’s office one day in his fourth year to hear the story of Harry Potter and Gryffindor’s sword. Presumably Harry and his friends were not the only students who regularly got into trouble at Hogwarts. Terry’s interest in the magical martial arts may have landed him in hot water on more than one occasion.
