Crabbe At Hogwarts – First Year

Crabbe was already closely associated with Draco Malfoy and Gregory Goyle before arriving at Hogwarts. Draco introduced the three of them to Harry Potter on the Hogwarts Express. The three were later sorted into Slytherin house, like their fathers before them.

When Malfoy challenges Harry Potter to a duel, he names Crabbe as his second. However, the duel never happens as it was just a rouse to get Harry caught out of bed after hours.

Crabbe at Hogwarts – Second Year

During his second year, we learn that Crabbe has a huge appetite and will eat even when he is full. Harry and Ron use cakes containing sleeping draught to get Crabbe and Goyle out of the way and steal their hair to transform into them using Polyjuice Potion.

The intention is to get Malfoy to reveal the identity of Slytherin’s heir to them in the guide of Crabbe and Goyle. But Malfoy does not know the identity, though there are hints that his father knows more than he is letting on. It turns out that it was Lucius Malfoy who gave the diary cursed with the soul of Tom Riddle to Ginny Weasley. But he did not tell his son about his plan.

We see that while Malfoy trusts Crabbe and Goyle, he considers them slow witted.

Crabbe at Hogwarts – Third Year

Crabbe, along with Goyle and Mafoy, continue to bully Harry in his third year. They entered his compartment on the Hogwarts Express to start trouble. Their behavior was curbed by the presence of the sleeping Professor Lupin.

Later, Crabbe, with Malfoy, Goyle and Slytherin Quidditch captain Marcus Flint, dressed up as dementors to try and scare Harry at a Quidditch match. They had been bullying him all year about fainting on the Hogwarts Express when the dementors arrived. However, they were caught and would have spent considerable time in detention.

Despite his size, Crabbe does not seem to have been brave. When Harry threw a snowball at Malfoy from under his invisibility cloak near the Shrieking Shak in Hogwarts, Crabbe was noticeably scared.

Crabbe at Hogwarts – Fourth Year

Crabbe actively participated in the campaign, led by Malfoy, to taunt Harry when he was named as a second Triwizard Champion for Hogwarts. This was an opportunity for him to continue his bullying of Harry.

He attended the Yule Ball with Goyle. Both wore green robes and failed to find dates.

While Harry always suspected that Crabbe’s father was probably a Death Eater, this was confirmed for him in the cemetery near Little Hangleton, as Crabbe’s father was one of the Death Eaters to show up when Lord Voldemort returned.

Crabbe at Hogwarts – Fifth Year

Crabbe seems to have become bolder in his fifth year following the return of Lord Voldemort, even though it was denied by the Ministry and this time. He actively taunted Susan Bones, saying that her aunt, who worked at the Ministry of Magic, was a troublemaker and should be dealt with. She was murdered by Death Eaters the following summer.

In this year he also became a Beater on the Slytherin Quidditch team along with Goyle. They used the opportunity to viciously attack opposing players. Crabbe sent a Bludger soaring into the back of Harry’s head after he caught the Snitch before Malfoy. This resulted in a fight that saw Dolores Umbridge ban Harry, and Fred and George Weasley from Quidditch for life. However, this ban ended with her removal from Hogwarts.

Later Crabbe joined Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad and helped Umbridge track down the DA. This also gave him the opportunity to pick on other students. He was one of the group that was overpowered by the DA members in Umbridge’s office, which allowed them to leave school and infiltrate the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic.

When the events at the Ministry led to the arrest of Lucius Malfoy and Crabbe’s father, Crabbe, Goyle, and Malfoy tried to ambush Harry on the train, but they were repelled by a group of DA members using a variety of jinxes.

Crabbe at Hogwarts – Sixth Year

Harry and his friends saw less of Crabbe and Goyle this year as they spent much of the year outside of classes using Polyjuice Potion to assume the form of various girls to stand guard outside the Room of Requirement where Malfoy was working to fix a vanishing cabinet and grant Death Eaters access to the school. Their job was to drop an object to alert Malfoy if anyone was passing by the secret room.

Crabbe had at least one argument with Malfoy about this as he was unhappy having to do this without knowing what Malfoy was up to.

Crabbe also did remedial Defence Against the Dark Arts classes throughout the year as he failed his O.W.L. As they continued to struggle to produce the required work, Professor Snape gave them various detentions.

Crabbe at Hogwarts – Seventh Year

Crabbe thrived at Hogwarts during his seventh year under the new Death Eater regime. He was one of the students who enjoyed using the Cruciatus Curse on other students during their Dark Arts classes. Neville comments that Dark Arts might be the first time that Crabbe and Goyle were getting top marks.

Crabbe also seems to have used the Killing Curse, which is a powerful piece of magic. He does not manage to use it successfully against Hermione because he misses.

When the school is being evacuated of students after Harry and his friends arrive, Crabbe, along with Malfoy and Goyle, decide to stay behind to deliver Harry to Lord Vodlemort. While Malfoy is adamant that Harry must be delivered alive, Crabbe is not concerned about killing him. He starts to rebel against Malfoy, noting that his dad is finished among the Death Eaters.

They ambush Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the Room of Requirement while they are looking for Ravenclaw’s Diadem, which is one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. In the ensuing battle Crabbe unleashes Fiendfyre in the room, but is unable to control it. It engulfs the entire room, destroying everything, including the Horcrux. Fiendfyre is one of the things potent enough to do it. Hermione notes that she did not suggest this earlier because it is so dangerous.

However, Crabbe also causes his own death as he is trapped in the room with the fire. Harry and Ron manage to save Malfoy and Goyle as they escape on brooms, but not Crabbe. Malfoy is very upset by the loss of Crabbe.

Vincent Crabbe Personality Type & Traits

Crabbe is portrayed in the Harry Potter books as unintelligent, and also lacking inquisitiveness. He makes no efforts to learn, but instead relies on his size and his connections, as a pure blood Slytherin wizard. Crabbe is a bully who enjoys inflating himself by picking on others. He only begins to thrive at school when the Death Eaters take over and this kind of cruelty is encouraged and rewarded.

While he seems to have been a loyal friend to Draco Malfoy over the years, he reveals that this was more about his father’s position among the Death Eaters than genuine affection. He begins to ignore Malfoy’s leadership when his father loses power.

Vincent Crabbe Zodiac Sign & Birthday

We do not know Crabbe’s birthday, but he must have been born in 1979/80 to be in the same year as Harry and Malfoy at Hogwarts. Fans suggest that he may be a Sagittarius. People born under this sign like to belong and might be attracted to a charismatic leader like Malfoy. They also tend to enjoy the extreme and can find danger magnetic. This could explain Crabbe’s natural affinity for the dark arts.

Is Vincent Crabbe Pure Blood?

While the Crabbe family is not listed on the directory of pure blood wizards, they were nevertheless considered a pure family. They were known to be aligned with Lord Voldemort. The family name presumably ended with the Second Wizarding War. Crabbe died, and his father was presumably killed or sent to Azkaban following the Battle of Hogwarts.

Was Vincent Crabbe a Death Eater?

While Crabbe certainly supported the Death Eaters openly in the Battle of Hogwarts, he does not seem to have been officially made a Death Eater by Lord Voldemort. He does not have the dark mark. Perhaps Crabbe was hoping that by capturing or killing Harry Potter, he could join the ranks of the Death Eaters alongside his father.

How Did Vincent Crabbe Die?

Crabbe died at his own hand when he released a Fiendfyre curse in the Room of Requirement while trying to capture or kill Harry Potter during the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998. He was unable to control the fire, and it grew quickly due to the number of things that had been hidden in this version of the room over the years. While Harry, Ron, and Hermione were able to save Malfoy and Goyle, and fly them out on brooms, Crabbe was lost.

No one actually saw his death, but he was assumed lost in the fire powerful enough to destroy the Ravenclaw Diadem Horcrux and the room itself.
