Everyone knows the 7 dwarfs as the lovable characters with unique names and personalities in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The 1937 full-length animated feature film was one of Walt Disney’s greatest masterpieces.
Princess Snow White lives with her horrible stepmother, the Evil Queen, who arranges her assassination.
After the Huntsman told Snow White to run, she finds herself in the middle of the forest. The forest animals led Snow White to the small cottage where the dwarfs live.
The seven dwarfs first appeared onscreen together in the song Heigh-Ho at the timestamp of 21m and 26s. Snow White first introduces the dwarfs’ names as she reads them on their beds.
Who Are the Seven Dwarves From Snow White?
The seven dwarfs from Snow White in order are Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy. Each dwarf is very different from the others, and their names represent their distinct personality.
All 7 dwarfs wear colorful hats, tunics with a black belt, and comfy brown shoes. They all work in a diamond mine, each with their own task.
They live in a cozy cottage in the middle of the forest. Naturally, the seven dwarfs are not the best housekeepers with the dishes in the sink, dust everywhere, and cobwebs on the ceiling.
Arriving home, they were surprised to see the lights on, a pot of stew cooking, and the cottage clean. They instantly felt that something was wrong and that there is an intruder lurking.
Much to their surprise, Princess Snow White is sleeping peacefully in their beds. Introducing herself, Snow White persuades the dwarfs to let her stay in exchange for doing household chores, cooking, and the cherry on top is baking gooseberry pie.
6 out of 7 dwarfs agree to let Snow White stay, except for Grumpy.
Below, we look at the 7 dwarfs’ names in order and about each one’s characteristics and role in the Snow White animated movie.
7 Dwarfs Names From Snow White
Bashful

The sweetheart of the 7 dwarfs, Bashful, is a huge hopeless romantic. He is prone to blushing and hiding behind his beard every time he gets shy.
Bashful wants to sing for Snow White during their little entertainment but gets all flustered. Later in the movie, he asks Snow White to tell a romantic love story.
A great way to tell Bashful apart from the others is his slender form.
Even though Bashful is shy, the moment they learn about Snow White’s poisoning, he and the others angrily chase after the evil witch.
Fun Fact: Bashful is secretly in love with Snow White.
Doc

Doc is, in fact, the self-appointed leader of the 7 dwarfs. As the leader, Doc sports a reliable and intelligent disposition.
He is the only one of the dwarfs who wears a pair of glasses and is not named after an adjective. Additionally, Doc has a speech disorder where he stutters and confuses words from one another.
Doc’s relationship with the other dwarfs is one of a kind, especially with Dopey. He portrays a fatherly figure towards Dopey as he always keeps an eye on him. Although, the opposite can be said about Grumpy because of their constant bickering.
Fun fact: Doc’s character wasn’t created until later on when he was paired with Grumpy. The duo is the perfect bickering partner.
Dopey

The youngest dwarf, Dopey, is everyone’s little bundle of joy. He is the only one who can’t speak because he never tried to, but that doesn’t stop his silly behavior.
Goofiness is a big part of his charming personality, which Snow White enjoys. Additionally, Dopey plays the drum really well as seen in the movie.
Even though he can’t talk, Dopey constantly makes various sounds like his hiccups, whimpers, and a short yell.
Dopey consistently shows affection towards Snow White by dancing with her and trying to get her to kiss him on the lips.
Fun fact: Originally, Dopey wasn’t supposed to be mute. Voice actor Mel Blanc was going to voice Dopey before the production team decided he should be mute.
Grumpy

The grouchy Grumpy is known for a constant scowl on his face and arms crossed across his chest. He is almost always annoyed with the other dwarfs, whether it is Doc’s decisions or Dopey’s goofy behavior.
Grumpy is the only one who did not like Snow White staying with them. He makes snarky comments against women, associating them with witches, especially the Evil Queen.
Regardless of his disapproval of Snow White’s living arrangements with them, he reminded her to be careful before leaving for work. As Snow White kissed his forehead, Grumpy momentarily showed a quick affection towards her before shrugging it off.
Fun fact: Grumpy is actually terrified of witches. He masks his fear by making snarky comments.
Happy

Happy, from the origins of his name, is the bubbliest and most optimistic out of the bunch. He was the only one who gladly introduced himself to Snow White.
One of Happy’s striking features is his cheery smile. He is also the plumpest one out of all 7 dwarfs. A talented one with great yodeling skills and a knack for playing instruments.
Despite his joyful demeanor, Happy can be brutal during a serious situation. For instance, when the dwarfs thought they had an intruder inside the house, Happy was the first one to come up with a plan.
Fun fact: Happy is the only dwarf that Snow White does not refer to by their name.
Sleepy

Droopy-eyed Sleepy is probably the quietest dwarf aside from Dopey.
Just from the origins of his name, Sleepy’s constant drowsiness prohibits him from really taking part in the activities. A hilarious moment was Sleepy slamming a cymbal on his face trying to kill the fly that was annoying him.
Despite Sleepy’s drowsiness, he is beyond logical. He was the only one to piece together that the forest animals were interrupting work because something happened to Snow White. His assumption is proven true when the dwarfs find Snow White poisoned inside their cottage.
Fun fact: Animators made sure to draw one of Sleepy’s eyes smaller to make the audience understand his sleepiness.
Sneezy

Moving on to Sneezy, who, from his name, frequently releases a powerful sneeze throughout the movie. Sneezy has intense hay fever and a stuffy nose that never seems to recover from his uncontrollable fits of sneezes.
Most of the other 6 dwarfs quickly cover Sneezy’s nose to prevent an eruption of sneezes. For instance, during their investigation of the intruder in their house, the other dwarfs were consistently trying to stop Sneezy’s sneeze.
He wasn’t able to talk much in the film because of his condition, but nevertheless, he was a charming dwarf.
Fun fact: Albert Hurter inspired a lot of Sneezy’s onscreen moments. Sneezy is the only dwarf to represent constant action.
