LEGO Marvel 2022 Advent Calendar Review 76231 (Day 1-24 Photos)

LEGO Marvel 2022 Advent Calendar Review 76231 (Day 1-24 Photos)

LEGO Advent calendars are always some of the most highly anticipated and fun sets of the year, and the 76231 Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Advent Calendar is no different.

Usually, LEGO produces a general Marvel calendar that doesn’t focus on any one particular movie or TV show.

But this year, they’ve chosen to focus on the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It’s a good choice and makes complete sense, considering its relevance to the festive period!

This LEGO set was released on September 1st, 2022, and retails for $44.99 / £29.99.

Packaging

The front of the packaging features images of several of the Minifigures and micro builds included in this particular set. It features the usual branding as well as the logo of the franchise.

There’s a definite Christmas party theme on the outside of the front of the box. The top, bottom, and sides contain the usual logos and legal bits and pieces you expect to see with any LEGO set.

The 1:1 Minifigure image that is shown on the top of the box is Mantis. This gives those that are unsure about sizes a sense of scale when it comes to the LEGO Marvel Minifigures.

Turning the set around, we are greeted by the back side of the box.

Back of the box

This side of the box also shows off several different LEGO Minifigures and Micro builds that can be found within this set.

We also like that there are faded gray images of other Marvel character Minifigures around the bottom and right-hand side of the back artwork.

Flipping the back panel down, we are greeted to the sight of the 24 colorful doors, behind which are all the LEGO Minifigures and micro builds.

So without further ado, let’s dive into what you will find in this calendar, starting – quite logically – with day 1!

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Day 1 – Star-lord / Peter Quill Minifigure and Rocket Boots

Day 1 - Star-lord / Peter Quill Minifigure and Rocket Boots
Day 1 – Star-lord / Peter Quill Minifigure and Rocket Boots

Movie: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Type of build: Minifigure
Total pieces: 12
Spare pieces: 2

We start off with a Minifigure of the main Guardian of the Galaxy, Star-lord / Peter Quill. He comes complete with his two iconic guns as well as a pair of rocket boots.

The build contained only 12 pieces, so it was fairly quick and easy, with the most fiddly parts being the rocket books. But even then that wasn’t too bad!

With a completely red outfit, this version of Star-lord is clearly based on his appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. This is fine with us because we think it’s a pretty great look!

This Star-Lord Minifigure can only be found in this set, with the closest version being the Star-Lord from the LEGO Marvel 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue. Though that version features leg printing plus a mask.

With this version, we get a double-sided face, with one side featuring a happy, arrogant kind of grin, and the other looking more concerned and determined.

Overall, though, the Star-lord / Peter Quill Minifigure is a great start to the calendar and is the first of several amazing Minifigures that can be found in this Advent Calendar set.

Day 2 – Gift Box with Headphones and Awesome Mix Walkman

Day 2 - Gift Box with Headphones and Awesome Mix Walkman
Day 2 – Gift Box with Headphones and Awesome Mix Walkman

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 13
Spare pieces: 4

What is Christmas without presents?! Well, day two brings us a gift box with headphones and Awesome Mix Walkman.

This micro build is in the scale of the Minifigures, and serves as an accessory that compliments the Star-Lord that we got on day 1.

The headphones can fit around the neck of the Star-lord Minifigure, and you can easily pop the Walkman into/onto his hand, so it looks like he’s holding it and enjoying the music.

Day 2 - Star-lord enjoying his music
Day 2 – Star-lord enjoying his music

The Walkman even featured a little twisty, spin-y kind of volume control, which is a nice (if pretty tiny and unnoticeable) feature. Also, the printed Awesome Mixtape is…well, awesome!

The gift box itself is made of a yellow hollow brick and has a red lid with a star on top. It’s simple, but it does the trick.

Overall, day 2 is a nice Christmas-themed accessory, and we love that it includes accessories for the Star-lord Minifigure.

Day 3 – Kyln Hoverbot

Day 3 - Kyln Hoverbot
Day 3 – Kyln Hoverbot

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 23
Spare pieces: 3

The Kyln Hoverbot is the micro build with the most pieces in this set! It’s certainly a small and fiddly build, but the results are pretty cool.

The canons on the top pivot up and down, and the left and right most booster rockets spin around 360 degrees. This makes this micro build seem a little more interesting and dynamic than you might initially think it is.

By the way, for those of you that are wondering, these Hoverbots could be found in the prison scene of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie!

Overall, the dark red and black coloring of the Klyn Hoverbot is cool, and the orange boosters give it a pop of color. It was a cool deep-cut of a choice for day 3.

Day 4 – Tool and Weapons Rack

Day 4 - Tool and Weapons Rack
Day 4 – Tool and Weapons Rack

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 8
Spare pieces: 1

Another handy micro build awaits us on day 4, and it’s the tools and weapons rack. This includes a black hammer, silver wrench, and some red sticks of dynamite.

The hammer and wrench slot into the holes, and they are held neatly in place. The rack is firm yet loose enough for them to easily slide in and out of it. The dynamite attaches to a small arm on the side of the rack.

The tools and weapons are all scaled for the Minifigures, so they will fit nicely into their hands, so you can play with them and recreate all kinds of scenes.

Overall, it’s cool to get accessories, and while they might not be the most exciting, they do offer some play options.

Day 5 – Rocket Raccoon Minifigure

Day 5 - Rocket Raccoon Minifigure
Day 5 – Rocket Raccoon Minifigure

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Minifigure
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 4
Spare pieces: 0

We have another Minifigure behind the door for day 5, this time it’s everyone’s favorite talking animal, Rocket Raccoon.

With a great outfit on, he is a shorter Minifigure. The legs feature no printing at all, but the torso piece has plenty of cool details on it. There is also a tail piece that can be sandwiched between the legs and torso.

This is the exact same Rocket Raccoon that comes in the LEGO Marvel 76193 The Guardians’ Ship LEGO set.

Many of the other Rocket Raccoon Minifigures have gray fur, so this makes it only the second time that we get a brown fur version.

He comes with no extra accessories, but there’s plenty of stuff behind other doors that he can use. For example, he looks great with any of the accessories that could be found behind day 4s door.

There are also plenty of accessories behind the following doors that Rocket would work well with, too.

Overall, this Rocket Raccoon Minifigure is going to be a favorite for a lot of people. As we mentioned, it’s only the second iteration with gray fur, and it generally looks cool.

Day 6 – Box of Rocket’s Stuff

Day 6 - Box of Rocket's Stuff
Day 6 – Box of Rocket’s Stuff

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 21
Spare pieces: 6

Behind the door for day 6 is Rocket Raccoon’s box of stuff! The box is a quick and simple build, and the ‘stuff’ contained within is pretty neat.

One of the most fun items is the cybertronic eye that Rocket is so proud of owning. In fact, it’s the one he gives to Thor in Avengers: Endgame!

Some of the other items are a little trickier to identify. We think there is the device that holds the blue Infinity Stone, and some kind of spaceship tool. We’re not too sure, and it’s kind of abstract!

With that being said, though, LEGO can only do so much, so if the items aren’t instantly recognizable and take a little imagination to figure out what they are, we can forgive them. After all, it’s difficult to make something look familiar with only 2 or 3 pieces.

Overall, it’s a neat little box of bits and bobs that would work well with the Rocket Raccoon Minifigure. Even if the items themselves are a little abstract and open to interpretation.

Day 7 – Rocket’s Oversized Gun

Day 7 - Rocket's Oversized Gun
Day 7 – Rocket’s Oversized Gun

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 17
Spare pieces: 1

Rocket might be small, but he does love an oversized gun! And that’s exactly what we get behind the door for day 7.

This large, bright, chunky gun is a tricky build, but the end results are pretty impressive. The gray hilt looks neat, and the orange barrel gives it a vibrant pop of color.

The back brown piece pivots and can clamp around the shoulder of whichever Minifigure is holding it. It provides a little more stability and strength.

It will make your Minifigures very front heavy and more likely to fall over, though, so it’s swings and roundabouts.

Overall, the oversized gun is a bombastic and exciting micro build that looks impressive on its own, and even more impressive in the hands of a Minifigure!

Day 8 – Christmas Turkey and Flame

Day 8 - Christmas Turkey and Flame
Day 8 – Christmas Turkey and Flame

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 10
Spare pieces: 2

Behind day 8’s door is pretty much everyone’s favorite Christmas food, turkey! In fact, today we get a Christmas turkey and flame micro build.

On its own this set is pretty uninspiring. Yes, the turkey makes for a fun accessory, but the flame seems a little redundant and doesn’t really interact with the turkey.

But what you can do to add a little more excitement is combine day 8’s micro build with day 5’s Rocket Raccoon Minifigure and day 7’s oversized gun micro build…

Rocket Raccoon flamethrowering a turkey
Rocket Raccoon flamethrowering a turkey

As you can see, Rocket Raccoon looks awesome with the oversized flamethrower gun that he’s using to cook the Christmas turkey!

Overall, it’s clear to see that this set is much more awesome when combined with several others!

Day 9 – Nebula and a Piece of Cake

Day 9 - Nebula and a Piece of Cake
Day 9 – Nebula and a Piece of Cake

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Minifigure
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 10
Spare pieces: 3

The next Minifigure that we get is Nebula, complete with a piece of blue and purple cake. This can be found behind the door for day 9.

This is an especially Christmassy Minifigure, complete with a garish festive jumper. The colorful blue and white torso piece even features a knitted image of Thanos, a little festive nod to the character’s tyrannical father.

On the back of her specially printed torso piece is a knitted image of Nebula and her sister Gamora (the only Guardian who wasn’t included in this Advent calendar!)

The back of Nebula's torso piece
The back of Nebula’s torso piece

Naturally, there have been no other Nebula Minifigures like this, making her unique to the LEGO Advent Calendar set.

The shiny silver printing on her face looks great and adds a lot of intricate detailing. It’s unfortunate that her legs contain no printing, but that doesn’t detract from the quality of this Minifigure.

The cake she comes with consists of three small square pieces and a flower piece on top. It might look simple, and it admittedly is, but it works well and there’s no doubt as to what it’s supposed to be.

Overall, Nebula is one of the most festive Marvel figures in this set, and we always love it when you get truly Christmas-themed Minifigures in the Advent calendars.

Day 10 – Mining Ship

Day 10 - Mining Ship
Day 10 – Mining Ship

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: No
Total pieces: 16
Spare pieces: 4

Brightly colored and very circular in appearance, a Mining Ship micro build is what awaits you behind day 10’s door.

The yellow bricks are super eye-catching, and the circular shape certainly is a different and interesting choice when it comes to spacehip design.

However we certainly wouldn’t say it’s a favorite. We always prefer micro builds that are on the same scale as the Minifigures, and this one isn’t .

Fortunately though, many people will still find it fun and interesting to look at, and there’s no doubt that it was a tricky (in a fun way) build.

Overall, the Mining Ship microbuild might look cool, but it ultimately is a little pointless, in the grand scheme of the Advent calendar.

Day 11 – Mining Ship and Escape Pod

Day 11 - Mining Ship and Escape Pod
Day 11 – Mining Ship and Escape Pod

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: No
Total pieces: 15
Spare pieces: 3

Behind day 11’s door is the Mining Ship and Escape Pod, and we’ll be honest, it’s only an okay micro build.

It’s always fun to build these tiny sets, but it took us a while to figure out what it actually was when we were done.

Our issues with this micro build are similar to our issues with Day 10’s Mining Ship, in that it’s just not the most exciting choice.

Yes, the blue coloring is eye-catching and fun, but when they try to make small versions of big things, it kind of falls apart.

Overall, the Mining Ship and Escape Pod is definitely not our favorite in this Advent calendar, serving more as a filler day than anything else.

Day 12 – Food and Drinks Table

Day 12 - Food and Drinks Table
Day 12 – Food and Drinks Table

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 18
Spare pieces: 6

Day 12 reveals a food and drinks table. After all, what is a festive party without food and drinks?!

In this micro build you get several cups, a large green bottle, come lemon slices for in the drinks, and a couple of cupcakes topped with colorful icing.

The micro build itself is not the most exciting one ever, but what we do love is how the Minifigures can all interact with these particular accessories.

Rocket and Nebula enjoying the food and drinks table

Overall, despite its blandness, the food and drinks table is the perfect set to help build out your festive party scene. The cups, cakes, and drinks make for great-looking little accessories for your Minifigures to play with.

Day 13 – Mantis and her Guitar

Day 13 - Mantis and her Guitar
Day 13 – Mantis and her Guitar

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Minifigure
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 5
Spare pieces: 0

Our next Minifigure is hidden behind the door for day 13, and it’s Mantis – and this time she has a blue electric guitar!

This same Mantis comes in only one other build: the LEGO Marvel 76193 Guardians’ Ship LEGO set.

Mantis complete with the double-sided head, one side featuring a neutral smile, the other side her ‘meanest face’.

We initially thought that the two antennae on her forehead were molded directly onto her head piece and the head piece just sat around it. We were surprised to find them attached to the front of the hair piece instead. The result is seamless.

The blue guitar is a cool accessory. It could maybe have benefitted from having some printing on it to bring out the molded details, but that is our only gripe with it.

Overall, Mantis is a surprisingly exciting little Minifigure that looks really neat, with her Antenna making her stand that little bit taller than the other Minifigures in this set.

Day 14 – The Benatar (The Guardians’ Spaceship)

Day 14 - The Benatar (The Guardians' Spaceship)
Day 14 – The Benatar (The Guardians’ Spaceship)

Movie: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: No
Total pieces: 20
Spare pieces: 3

To say we’re not a massive fan of micro builds that aren’t to Minifigure scale, we were pleasantly surprised at what was behind the door for day 14: The Benatar (The Guardians’ Ship).

The bright coloring is eye-catching, and it’s not too often that LEGO produces sets with these bright, almost neon pieces.

The two tails on the back are hinged and can move from side to side. It’s not much, but it gives The Benatar a little dynamic feature.

It might only be simple, but there is a small round flat stud that sits on the top, just to the right-hand side of the cockpit as you look at it.

This asymmetry always makes spaceships (or any other vehicle for that matter) look a little more interesting and unique.

Overall, The Benatar surprised us! Its accuracy, color, and looks really make this one of the best micro builds in the entire advent calendar!

Day 15 – Giant Candy Cane

Day 15 - Giant Candy Cane
Day 15 – Giant Candy Cane

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 11
Spare pieces: 1

Behind the door for day 15 is a giant candy cane. And we’re not going to lie, there’s not too much to say about this one!

It is constructed solely from red and white tube pieces that curve around at the top. It is then all anchored to a large round baseplate that keeps it all held in place without falling over.

The design is smooth and sleek, which actually makes it the least LEGO-looking build in the whole set!

Overall, the giant candy cane might be overly simple, but it makes for a nice bit of decoration that will make any Christmas party scene look that bit extra festive.

Day 16 – Boom Box and Awesome Mix Tape

Day 16 - Boom Box and Awesome Mix Tape
Day 16 – Boom Box and Awesome Mix Tape

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 14
Spare pieces: 1

A fun-looking boom box and Awesome Mix Tape are behind day 16’s door! The set comes complete with two speakers to really complete the sound system setup.

The speakers are simple and do the job, looking the part. The actual boom box has two dials on either side, both with printed details on them.

Similarly, the awesome mix take is printed and looks absolutely fantastic.

We love the retro wood look, that has been carefully recreated using light, almost sandy brown pieces. It really gives off that 70s/80s vibe that Peter Quill loves so much.

Overall, the boom box and Awesome Mix Tape is a pleasing looking accessory. It has no functionality other than its looks…but when it looks this good it doesn’t really matter!

Day 17 – Thanos Armor Snowman

Day 17 - Thanos Armor Snowman
Day 17 – Thanos Armor Snowman

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 13
Spare pieces: 2

If you want a simple yet fun micro build, the Thanos armor-clad snowman that waits behind day 17s door is the little build for you.

The actual snowman is made up of mainly white pieces (obviously) with two brown branches for arms.

There are golden pieces that clip onto both of his arms that represent his shoulder armor, and a single round golden brick on the body that is meant to be part of the chest plate.

On the head sits an actual Minifigure helmet. In fact, it’s the very same helmet that comes with many Thanos Minifigures!

Thanos taking his helmet back!
Thanos taking his helmet back!

Overall, the Thanos armor snowman is a very tongue-in-cheek figure that is a sideways (and decidedly festive) take on the Thanos armor scarecrow from Avengers: Endgame.

Day 18 – The Milano (The Guardians’ Spaceship)

Day 18 - The Milano (The Guardians' Spaceship)
Day 18 – The Milano (The Guardians’ Spaceship)

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: No
Total pieces: 20
Spare pieces: 2

The Minalo is one of the Guardians’ other spaceships, and it’s the micro build that’s waiting behind day 18’s door.

While The Benatar has a bright orange color scheme, The Milano is a rich blue with a nice bright yellow body. LEGO faithfully recreated this look, creating another simple yet effective micro build that is NOT in scale with the Minifigures.

The wings are clipped to the body via a brick with a hinge, and as such, they can pitot up and down. The fins on the outer edge can also be rotated into whatever position you want.

We like how they used translucent blue bricks to represent the cockpit. It’s a creative use of translucent bricks, and they really stand out against the yellow body.

Overall, The Minalo is another micro build that really stands out, and makes for a fun, right, and dynamic little set.

Day 19 – Teenage Groot

Day 19 - Teenage Groot
Day 19 – Teenage Groot

Movie: Avenger: Infinity War (2018)
Type of build: Minifigure
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 7
Spare pieces: 0

One of the best Minifigures is behind the door for day 19, and it is everyone’s favorite sentient tree, teenage Groot!

Again, the only other place you can find this Minifigure is in the LEGO Marvel 76193 Guardians’ Ship LEGO set, but it is by far the best version of teenage Groot that we have got so far.

The printed details on his body are extremely intricate, and they extend all the way around the back, too.

The exquisite details are even printed all down the leg piece, all the way down to his feet. There is no printing on the back of his legs, though.

While there is no printing on the arms, the overall print job is first-rate, and it really makes for an interesting-looking Minifigure with a lot of depth.

Accessories-wise, teenage Groot comes with his phone/gaming tablet that fits snugly in his hand. Again, the details are printed on and there are no stickers.

He also comes with a cloud-shaped base. This is supposed to look like a patch of snowy ground at his feet. It’s a nice little touch that adds a little festive flavor.

There is also a small, discreet brown piece that goes around his neck and down his back. But more on that when we talk about what’s behind day 20’s door!

Overall, teenage Groot is an amazing Minifigure that absolutely takes the crown for both looks and details.

Day 20 – Christmas Tree Branches

Day 20 - Christmas Tree Branches
Day 20 – Christmas Tree Branches

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 14
Spare pieces: 3

Open up the door for day 20, and you’ll find some Christmas tree branches!

The three green branches interlace and lock together to form a triangle of foliage. You then simply attach the translucent ‘bauble’ bricks and add the star on top. A thin plant piece keeps it all held firmly together.

Does it look neat? Yes! But it’s a little pointless on its own. But don’t worry, LEGO figured out a way to make this little build really stand out.

Now, remember the small brown brick that went around teenage Groot’s neck and down his back? Well, you can attach the Christmas tree branches to it, essentially making Groot a giant Christmas tree!

Groot the Christmas tree
Groot the Christmas tree

Overall, this micro build is pretty boring on its own, but when combined with teenage Groot, you get something truly magnificent!

Day 21 – Sled Ship Bow

Day 21 - Sled Ship Bow
Day 21 – Sled Ship Bow

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 9
Spare pieces: 0

Day 21 sees us start to put together a 3 part build, starting with the sled ship bow.

You’ll see a common thread for the next three days’ builds, in that there’s not too much to talk about when you just look at the 3 individual components.

The bow of this ship is pretty unextraordinary, with a steering wheel located behind a large white bulkhead.

The only thing of real note is the clip at the rear of the section, which promises something can be clipped to it. But what? You’ll have to hand on to find out what’s behind the subsequent day’s doors!

Overall, this sled ship bow is a solid build, if a little useless on its own.

Day 22 – Sled Ship Wings

Day 22 - Sled Ship Wings
Day 22 – Sled Ship Wings

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 19
Spare pieces: 3

Continuing the theme of pretty lackluster micro builds, day 22 sees the reveal of the sled ship’s wings. It is part 2 of the 3-day build.

Again, there’s nothing really enlightening to say about them, other than the fact that we like the blue/turquoise highlight bricks, and the reddish pink engine glow looks neat and powerful.

Overall these decorative wings slightly improve the playability of day 21’s sled ship boy…but not by much!

Day 23 – Sled Ship Rear

Day 23 - Sled Ship Rear
Day 23 – Sled Ship Rear

Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022)
Type of build: Micro build
Minifigure scale: Yes
Total pieces: 10
Spare pieces: 0

Part 3 of the 3-day build is behind the door for day 23, and we get the sled ship rear.

It is clear that it can be clipped to the back of the sled ship bow, and the reddish pink engine glow helps it match to the sled ship wings. It really brings all the parts together.

In the rear, you get a green sack full of parcels, which has a discreet handle at the top, making it easy to fit into the hands of your Minifigures.

Mantis and the sack full of parcels
Mantis and the sack full of parcels

Luckily, you can make the whole thing a lot more exciting by combining the sled ship bow, sled ship wings, and sled ship rear from days 21, 22, and 23 respectively. The result is something greater than the sum of its parts!

The complete sled ship
The complete sled ship

This fully formed sled ship can accommodate a Minifigure in the pilot’s seat, and possibly one in the rear, holding on to the bag of presents.

Being able to combine the builds from the past few days makes for a much more fun micro build than expected, with plenty of play options.

Day 24 – Drax and Infinity Stone

Day 24 Drax and Infinity Stone
Day 24 – Drax and Infinity Stone

We’ve finally reached the last door, and your special Christmas Eve gift is a super festive-looking Drax and a blue space infinity stone.

The face printing is awesome, and the tattoos around his eyes look especially detailed. Also, as he is a bald character, he only has a face on one side of his head. The back side of his head does also feature some similarly detailed printing, though.

The head piece is the same you get on other Drax figures, and the dark blue leg pieces are pretty standard and uninspired, but the torso piece really is something to behold.

This bright green-colored piece is designed to look like a garish knitted sweater, similar to how day 9’s Nebula had a white and blue knitted Thanos / Nebula and Gamora sweater.

Drax’s design is different, though, with his featuring a dancing baby Groot wearing a Santa hat. He is surrounded by music notes that carry on around to the back of the Minifigure.

Looking at accessories now, and instead of coming with the pair of knives Drax usually uses to fight with, this version has a knife and a spoon instead, to really round out his cutlery set.

He also comes with a blue space Infinity Stone. You can find all the different LEGO Infinity Stones in various sets, so it’s nice to get the blue version here.

Overall, it’s a fun and festive Minifigure, and a fantastic final entry into the Advent calendar. LEGO really did ensure that they ended on a high note!

Final thoughts

Having studied the Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Advent Calendar in-depth, and opened each and every door to build whatever’s behind them, we’ve got some final thoughts on this set.

In short, it’s as awesome as we had anticipated. You can go into this set with sky-high expectations, and still end up being presently surprised by it all.

Pretty much everything is on point, and you can tell a lot of work and thought has gone into putting together a LEGO set that is perfectly balanced. As all things should be.

Minifigure-wise, we think that Groot takes the prize as the best one. The detailing is second to none, and far beyond the other Minifigures in the set.

That’s not to say that the others don’t have their charm. In fact, they are all amazing in their own way!

All the Minifigures and Builds in the LEGO 76231 Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy 2022 Advent Calendar
All 24 Minifigures and micro builds

The Micro builds are a little more hit-and-miss, though. There are some really great choices, for example, The Benatar and The Milano, and some pretty baffling choices, like the Mining Ship and the Mining Ship and Escape Pod.

There are of course a few downsides. As we mentioned, some of the micro builds are less than inspiring, and it would have been nice to have seen them replaced with maybe a Gamora or maybe even a Ravager Thor Minifigure.

Still, overall, there are far more good things included in this Advent calendar than bad. It’s an absolute must for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy or Marvel in general, and we can highly recommend it!
