Kakashi Hatake, a member of the Hatake clan, and son of Sakumo Hatake is far from a stereotypical sensi.
His distinctive personality, warrior-like strength, and legendary ninja skills have arguably made him one of the best character arcs in the entire series.
He started out as an arrogant and brutal young ninja and transformed into a kind-hearted and selfless leader.
Consequently, his death left a significant mark on the story.
Kakashi dies in Naruto: Shippūden’s episode number 159 titled “Pain vs. Kakashi.” His death takes place during Pain’s assault arc.
But this death is temporary. Naruto practically begs Pain to bring him to life through his technique called “Samsara of Heavenly Life.”

How Does Kakashi Die?
Kakashi dies in episode number 159 while fighting pain, the overpowered antagonist. He dies in both the anime and manga from exhausting all his energy in Kamui Sharingan Jutsu. Kakashi used every last drop of chakra he had left to protect Choji, ran out of energy, and died.
He meets the cruel fate of death during the Pain arc. Kakashi falls short and dies when the Deva path shows up in search of Naruto.

How Is Kakashi Alive in Boruto?
Kakashi who dies in Naruto Shippuden during the pain arch while fighting Nagata Pain is alive in Boruto. When Pain shoots a nail to his forehead during their fight, Kakashi sends himself into another dimension. He loses his Sharingan and left eye during the battle.
Naruto convinces Pain to bring Kakashi back to life with the promise of bringing peace. Pain, hence, uses all of his remaining power to resurrect everyone killed in the battle of Konoha, including Kakashi. He uses Samsara: Heavenly Life technique to resurrect everyone!

What Episode Does Kakashi Get Revived?
Kakashi is revived in episode 175 of Naruto: Shippuden through Pain’s famous technique called Samsara of Heavenly Life. This occurs during Chapter 449 of the Manga. when Pain uses the Rinne rebirth technique to revive him, the Kakashi we see receives a reanimation.
Samsara of Heavenly Life is a Rinne rebirth technique itself that allows a person to revive someone who is dead. Through this technique, you summon the soul of the departed from the afterlife and re-attach it to their body.
How Many Times Has Kakashi Died?
Kakashi has currently only died and has been revived once. Kakashi returned in Boruto during episode 13 titled ” The Demon Beast Appears!” where he arrives at Hokage’s office. He shares his own discovery of the ongoing investigation regarding unusual attacks even though he was supposed to be in hot springs.
In the Boruto era, Kakashi’s role isn’t as important as it was in Naruto. Hence, he appears in the story every now and then.
Kakashi’s Death Scene Explained
Kakashi finds himself in the thick of the most difficult fight of his career during a battle with Pain when he invades Konoha in search of Naruto.
During the heated fight, Pain distracts Kakashi and uses the Shinra Tensei ability of the Deva Path to cause an explosion. Kakashi proceeds by using his Lighting blade to attack the path but the Asura Path blocks his attack.
Pain then uses the Bansho Ten’in technique to pull Kakashi towards the blade of the path. Just before Kakashi is about to launch his attack, the Asura Path fires a nail, hitting Kakashi in the head. The nail ends up destroying his chakra. Consequently, Kakashi’s energy depletes and he fails to sustain his life.

This was one of Naruto’s most devastating death moments. Kakashi’s life could no longer be sustained as he lost his chakra. But Naruto manages to revive him and others.
